Basic Job Functions:

The Sustainability Reporting Specialist is responsible for coordinating the annual corporate sustainability data collection, management, analysis, reporting, and assurance process. The individual will support the creation of First Solar’s annual sustainability report and ESG disclosures (GRI, CDP, TCFD), manage greenhouse gas emissions accounting, respond to customer surveys and ESG rating agency questionnaires, ensure compliance with emerging sustainability reporting standards and regulations, support product registration and compliance with the EPEAT ecolabel, and help communicate First Solar’s approach to Responsible Solar internally and externally. This position requires an experienced and detail-oriented individual who can function independently and across functions of the organization.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (master’s degree in sustainability or relevant degree preferred).
  • 4+ years relevant experience in sustainability or ESG reporting required.

Required Skills/Competencies:

  • Technical knowledge and experience with relevant ESG reporting frameworks, including Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), Sustainability Accounting and Standards (SASB), Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).
  • Experience with GHG accounting and analysis in accordance with carbon accounting protocols (e.g., GHG Protocol).
  • Knowledge of global sustainability reporting standards and regulations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter with a track record of demonstrated ability and motivation to learn.
  • Excellent project management and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient use of all Microsoft Office suite programs.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Maintain metrics and support compliance related to First Solar’s corporate and product sustainability commitments, standards, and reporting (e.g. EPEAT, RBA, RE100).
  • Drive ESG-related data collection to support annual sustainability reporting and responses to ESG questionnaires and rankings (e.g. CDP, Ecovadis, Dow Jones Sustainability Index).
  • Execute greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting process, including data collection, calculation, climate scenario analysis and assurance.
  • Develop and/or collect required supporting documentation for reporting requirements.
  • Manage internal or third-party validations and verification of sustainability data.
  • Conduct ESG peer benchmarking and reporting gap analyses to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Monitor latest developments in sustainability reporting standards and regulations to ensure alignment and compliance.
  • Maintain and update sustainability messaging and data points to support customer requests and RFPs.
  • Support engagement with ESG rating agencies (e.g. MSCI, ISS ESG, Sustainalytics).
  • Develop and maintain documentation of processes and procedures around data collection and management.
  • Coordinate with government affairs, communications, environmental health & safety, supply chain, legal, product management, and sales teams.
  • Coordinate internal global sustainability ambassador program, including the creation of supporting materials and presentations.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reports to Global ESG and Sustainability Director.
  • This position will not have direct reports.

Travel:

  • 0% – 5% (On occasion/as needed for training, etc.)

Estimated Salary Range:

  • $75,100 – $125,000 Annually
