Seasonal Cobbs Creek Stewardship Coordinator
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Reports to: Transportation Project Manager
Schedule: Part Time*
Subject Areas: Environment, Equitable Access to Green Space, Park Stewardship
*This is a field position that requires being outdoors to lead recreation and stewardship activities. Clean Air Council also has Center City office space available for in-person meetings.

General Job Description: The position will advance the goals of equitable access to green space and build volunteer stewardship capacity in Cobbs Creek Park, Philadelphia, PA. The position will engage residents through community-inspired programming throughout Cobbs Creek Park, leading to increased use of the park and trails.
For the position of Seasonal Cobbs Creek Stewardship Coordinator, the Council seeks a self-starting individual with vision, initiative, and demonstrated commitment to environmental protection and passion for growing equitable access to green space. This position is a member of the Council’s transportation program and will work on a variety of projects collaboratively within the team.

Responsibilities:

  • Support stewardship efforts in Cobbs Creek Park.
    • Help maintain Cobbs Creek Park’s green space to ensure trails are safe and inviting, including by participating in existing stewardship activities and helping to organize discrete events.
    • Support creative greening strategies inside the park and along the trail.
    • Recruit larger participation numbers in volunteer stewardship efforts.
    • Assist in planning and executing stewardship activities such as tree plantings, walks, and work days.
  • Serve as an “ambassador” to promote Cobbs Creek’s green space. Connect with residents and meet park and trail users where they are by maintaining a consistent presence in the park.
  • Support Council staff by joining and identifying relevant Cobbs Creek events, workshops, and activations.
  • Work with Council staff to capture and elevate stories and experiences of Cobbs Creek trail users enjoying the park and trail, and participating in stewardship activities.
  • Coordinate with other Cobbs Creek Park and trail stewards.

  • Knowledge of Cobbs Creek Park and the surrounding region’s trail & transit connections.
  • Comfortable with moderate physical labor in outdoor seasonal weather conditions.
  • Works well in a team.
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Creativity in use of resources.
  • Quick to learn new subject matter.
  • Strong organizing and oral communication skills.
  • Commitment to sustainability and the environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that would include weekend and evening hours for the purpose of attending community events and working with residents on stewardship efforts.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with the natural environment including plants, trees, and wildlife. (not required)
  • Resident of West/Southwest Philadelphia or directly adjacent municipalities in Delaware County. (not required)
  • Experience with in-person engagement. (not required)
  • Drivers license. (not required)

Salary: This position is part time and pays $20/hr 18 hours/week for 6 months.
