Job Description

Position

Global Energy Monitor is seeking an experienced Researcher who will be based in the Renewables and Other Power team, and focus on wind and solar research. Research primarily involves conducting internet searches and reviewing publicly-accessible online material for information (e.g. project start year, name, operating status, employment data, geospatial coordinates) about wind and solar farms in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries. The Researcher may also support other GEM projects as needed.

The Global Solar Power Tracker is a worldwide dataset of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal facilities. It includes solar farm phases with capacities of 1 megawatt (MW) or more. The Global Wind Power Tracker is a worldwide dataset of utility-scale, on- and offshore wind facilities. It includes wind farm phases with capacities of 10 MW or more.

GEM’s wind and solar data are used by climate movement advocates, academic researchers, journalists, and government officials worldwide to advance a sustainable energy future.

The Challenge

According to the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC), we have less than a decade to make massive and unprecedented changes in the global economy to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. To meet that challenge, Global Energy Monitor is creating trackers and other tools to provide detailed information on energy facilities, sponsors, and financing.
