The Research and Evaluation Associate will be integral to the Health In Harmony Research and Evaluation Department, supporting the organization in achieving its research and evaluation objectives. The role will be split into 60% focused on building the evaluation methodology and 40% working on existing and new research projects. The approach to monitoring and evaluation is innovative and synergistic with the community-led approach. Meanwhile, the research portfolio is diverse, ranging from human health and conservation to economics and anthropology.

ABOUT US

Health In Harmony (HIH) is an international non-profit working at the intersection of human well-being and ecosystem integrity, a field known as Planetary Health. Our goal is a common one: to reverse the rampant deforestation of tropical rainforests. But our method is unique: we engage with rainforest communities to design solutions that are beneficial to those communities, the local ecosystem, and the planet. Health In Harmony has a long-term presence in West Kalimantan, Borneo, with replication sites in Madagascar and Brazil and a scaling plan that is currently underway. POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Research and Evaluation Associate will be integral to the Health In Harmony Research and Evaluation Department, supporting the organization in achieving its research and evaluation objectives. The role will be split into 60% focused on building the evaluation methodology and 40% working on existing and new research projects. The approach to monitoring and evaluation is innovative and synergistic with the community-led approach.

Meanwhile, the research portfolio is diverse, ranging from human health and conservation to economics and anthropology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Working collaboratively with the R&E team to build out, pilot, and implement the evaluation mechanisms and methodology for the HIH scale
  • Support in-country teams to design robust monitoring and evaluation frameworks
  • Support the Fundraising Department to include M&E components of all grant applications and donor reports
  • Develop standardized monthly reporting formats for all HIH projects
  • Designing and implementing research projects
  • Supporting HIH data management requirements
  • Identifying and writing research grant applications and networking with other academic organizations
  • Analyzing and preparing M&E reports
  • Mentoring in-country staff  to improve HIH’s research and evaluation capacity

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

  • Masters degree in a relevant topic (e.g., Conservation/Environmental Science/Public Health/Geography/Evaluation)
  • High level of written and spoken English required (C1 level certification required if not native speaker)
  • At least three years of working experience in M&E-related environmental issues and/or international development context
  • Highly organized and able to work both independently and remotely
  • Detail-oriented and punctual
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (academic level)

Desirable:

  • Ph.D. in a relevant topic
  • Postgraduate qualification in monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in or a background in economic evaluation
  • Comfortable in R, Epi Info, STATA, SPSS, or other statistical tools
  • Comfortable in CommCare, Kobo, ODK, Tableau, or other data collection and visualization tools
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • A strong network of academic collaborators
