Background

The California Association of Resource Conservation Districts (CARCD) is a 501c3 non-profit membership organization serving the 95 Resource Conservation Districts (RCDs) throughout the state. Our organization works as a hub to strengthen and support a powerful statewide network of local RCDs so that they can assist communities across California in caring for our land, water, soil, air, and wildlife. CARCD and the RCDs offer effective, locally governed, non-regulatory ways to meet our communities’ natural resource needs and challenges, at any scale from local to statewide.

Summary of Position

CARCD is seeking a dynamic, creative Project Manager to assist RCDs in meeting the next generation of Pollinator and Wildlife-related challenges. The Project Manager will work closely with CARCD’s Executive Director in achieving goals related to the Pollinator and Wildlife Program’s general operations, planning and budgeting, reporting, contractual work, and contracting and compliance, and program development.  The position requires the ability to communicate and coordinate well with a diverse set of staff, directors, RCDs, partners, and funders. The position involves primarily detail-oriented and independent work but also necessitates collaboration with the Executive Director and Financial and Administrative team.

Position Responsibilities

The breakdown percentages are estimations and may fluctuate over time.

Pollinator and Wildlife Program General Operations (60%):

  • Coordinate receiving reports and invoices from all sub-grantee/contractors on CARCD block grants
  • Coordinate compiling, writing, and submitting reports/invoices
  • Work in grant management platform: GrantVantage (or related platform)
  • Develop and maintain program budgets
  • Track cost-sharing/match requirements and fulfillment
  • Compile various subcontracts and amendments for RCD contracts

Communications (30%):

  • Build relationships with RCD staff and partners working on Pollinator and Wildlife Program block grants through one-on-one communication via email, Zoom, or phone
  • Coordinate, attend, and eventually lead quarterly grantee calls for relevant block grants and other grantee/stakeholder meetings
  • Communicate with funders about invoice and reporting related issues
  • Assist Communications Coordinator in telling stories related to Pollinator and Wildlife Program
  • Keep Executive Director apprised of progress, on-going work, and issues and concerns related to projects and grants

Other/Miscellaneous (10%)

  • Provide support for Executive Director on other related tasks as they arise
  • Help coordinate the Pollinator and Wildlife track of conference (virtual and in person)
  • Help pursue diverse funding sources as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 1-4 years of professional and/or volunteer experience in project management and/or grant management
  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in business and accounting, public policy, natural resources, or related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite and Adobe Acrobat, and proven ability to grasp and use new software applications as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially as relates to organizations and individuals working on projects that the Project Manager manages.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer/client service
  • Effectively works both in team settings and individually
  • Ability to be productive while being flexible, self-starting, and working independently in a remote environment
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to set priorities, manage time, work under pressure, and assist with multiple projects while meeting deadlines
  • Appreciation for the diversity of California’s local communities and a passion for taking action to meet our state’s climate and biodiversity goals
  • Desire and ability to work with a diverse community group of people and staff members

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in grant management software
  • Experience with creating or editing website content
  • Experience or desire to learn grant writing
  • Experience and demonstrated knowledge of social media applications.
  • General knowledge of conservation opportunities and challenges in California, especially around pollinators and other wildlife

Working Conditions

Location: The candidate must live in California. CARCD is headquartered in Sacramento, CA, where we maintain office space, but most CARCD staff work remotely the majority of the time, with some in-person work required on a limited basis.  This policy applies to the Project Manager role as well.

Benefits: 11 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays, 10 days of vacation time and 10 days of sick time (pro-rated to part-time hours if relevant). Health insurance through a Kaiser Small Business plan is also available and employee premiums are covered 100% by CARCD (pro-rated to part-time hours if relevant), with coverage for any dependents being paid by the employee. (If employee does not enroll in the CARCD health insurance plan, we offer a monthly health care stipend equal to the amount of the premium). CARCD also offers a 401(k) retirement plan to all employees with up to 5% employer match.
