Job Description

FisheryProgress, a program of FishChoice, is the global transparency platform for tracking progress of Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs), which are multi-stakeholder initiatives aimed at improving the sustainability of a given fishery over time. The vast majority of global FIPs actively use FisheryProgress as their vehicle for public reporting and accountability. In 2021, FisheryProgress began integrating social and human rights concepts into FIP reporting with the launch of the Human Rights and Social Responsibility (HRSR) Policy. The HRSR Policy’s aim is to establish new transparency norms for reporting on social responsibility efforts and human rights risk mitigation activities in FIPs, and to ultimately support improvements on the ground. As we enter our second year of implementing the HRSR Policy, it is already abundantly clear that FisheryProgress has a critical and influential role to play in calling attention to major social issues in fisheries and in supporting and recognizing improvement.

We are seeking a Manager to lead that strategic work who brings deep expertise in human rights and social responsibility, with the capacity to provide thought leadership, facilitate difficult conversations, and identify pragmatic and creative solutions. They will have the experience and capacity to understand the complexities and diversity of FIP supply chains, and how that context influences FIPs’ capability to adopt this new area of work. This role will operationalize FisheryProgress’ current balanced, incremental, and flexible approach to integrating social responsibility into FIPs and provide the structure to learn from and evolve these solutions over time as needed to best support fishers, FIPs, and meaningful change.

The Manager will join the team at a critical point in not only the program’s trajectory and FishChoice’s organizational approach to human rights and social responsibility in seafood, but also in the broader collaborations across the sustainable seafood and human rights communities. The Manager will serve as a thought leader and play a significant role in shaping the movement to strengthen fisher empowerment and reduce the risks of supply chain exploitation in seafood supply chains.
