Tacoma Farmers Market Executive Director

The Tacoma Farmers Market (WA) is seeking a new, full-time Executive Director with a passion for local farms, local food and growing the community around them.

Tacoma Farmers Market (TFM) is a 501c (3) nonprofit organization operating three seasonal farmers markets in the Tacoma metropolitan area, a mobile market serving greater Pierce County and one Winter Market. TFM works with over 100 local farms, small businesses, and community organizations annually to create vibrant marketplaces for our community.

Position Summary

The Farmers Market Executive Director (ED) has overall responsibility for the operational, financial, and administrative management of the business of TFM. They supervise and collaborate with market staff, and work with the Board of Directors to make practical and strategic decisions regarding all aspects of the organization. This position reports to the Board of Directors.

The ideal candidate will possess the following core competencies.

  • Passion for local farms, local food, and growing community around them!
  • Understanding of the complexity of the local food system, including equity issues experienced by its stakeholders, from producers to vendors to consumers
  • Understanding of and commitment to anti-racist practices
  • Understanding of and commitment to food and justice and equitable access
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in non-profit organizations
  • Ability to understand and pursue organizational vision and inspire others to do the same
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills across a variety of environments
  • Proven record fundraising and increasing revenue; grant-writing experience preferred
  • Proven experience supervising staff and leading teams
  • Proven experience managing budgets; experience with Quick Books preferred
  • Proven ability to address setbacks, troubleshoot issues, and seamlessly direct multiple priorities at the same time.

Compensation:  $77,000-$85,000 annual salary

This is a full-time exempt position that requires a willingness to work some evening and weekend hours. Due to the seasonal nature of the market cycle some periods of the year will require long hours. While many of the responsibilities of this role can be performed remotely, consistent, and reliable ability to be on-site at markets and in the downtown Tacoma office is required. This position requires the ability to regularly lift 50 pounds. The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license.

This position has a monthly health care stipend, paid holidays, two weeks paid vacation increased to three weeks after one year of employment, and employer contribution to a SIMPLE IRA after one year of employment.

Position is scheduled to begin on or around April 1, 2022.  A mutually agreeable alternate date will be considered.
