Job Description

Good Energy Collective is looking for an experienced Director of Operations. Good Energy is a nonprofit research organization working to develop just and equitable clean energy.

The Director of Operations will oversee the day-to-day activities, manage resources efficiently, and implement strategies to enhance organizational effectiveness. This role requires a proactive individual with strong leadership skills, a passion for environmental justice, and a commitment to our mission. This position will be full-time and fully remote, with the ability to work from anywhere compatible with U.S. working hours.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years of experience supervising staff and operations and working strategically with a leadership team, preferably in a nonprofit or academic context. They should be a self-starter, proactive in improving organizational infrastructure, have an entrepreneurial mindset, and be adaptable to navigating evolving challenges for Good Energy. A proven commitment to racial and gender equity is crucial. Key Responsibilities

Overview

  • Manage day-to-day operations and develop structures to streamline processes
  • Establishing employment and administrative policies and procedures that will support and empower a growing and diverse team of researchers and thought leaders
  • Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and expense tracking to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability
  • Monitor and evaluate operational performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective measures as necessary

Organizational Operations

  • Oversee our payroll and HR platform, JustWorks, including payroll, benefits selection, and handbook development
  • Be responsible for the effective administration of Good Energy’s day-to-day operations
  • Coordinate staff calendars, schedule all staff meetings, and prepare agendas

Financial Oversight

  • In partnership with our accounting firm, help track and visualize spending and successful operations and track against the annual budget
  • Schedule and coordinate regular meetings with philanthropic donors and plan timelines for annual reporting and grant renewal applications. Prepare financial reports for grant reporting
  • Track small and individual donors and work with the communications team to develop ongoing engagement plans
  • Manage and ensure compliance requirements are met regularly, including coordinating requirements for the annual audit

Oversee Staffing and Team Performance

  • Develop and implement staffing plans that will enable Good Energy to meet future goals successfully
  • Ensure accountability across the team in setting and meeting benchmarks and deadlines
  • Manage performance review and accountability systems across the organization, focusing on empowering staff to develop and meet their career goals
  • Manage professional development and learning across the organization, including identifying and filling skills training and professional development

Qualifications

Candidates should have a desire to build operational infrastructure to help our organization grow sustainably and implement our strategic vision. Candidates should be highly organized, creative problem-solvers, and committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization and across the broader industry.

To that end, we seek a candidate with:

  • A minimum of 6 years of professional experience with a clear track record in strategic planning, managing teams and programs, and HR systems
  • Experience with financial oversight and management of operations, especially for nonprofits or research institutions
  • High emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills, with a focus on fostering inclusion and belonging across a diverse staff
  • Strong commitment to the organization’s mission and a passion for racial, environmental, economic, and social justice
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (our language of operation)

Salary & Benefits

The salary range is $110,000-$150,000, depending on experience. We trust our employees to know what they need to thrive, so we offer generous benefits to support their overall well-being:
