About the Native American Land Conservancy

As one of the first tribal land conservancies in California, the Native American Land Conservancy (NALC, the “Conservancy”) plays an important statewide and regional role as a model for tribal land management for healthy lands and peoples. The mission of the Conservancy is to acquire, preserve, and protect Native American sacred lands through protective land management, educational programs, and scientific study. This is an exciting time for the Conservancy, as it seeks to expand its educational programming and land stewardship and acquisition initiatives. To achieve this vision strategically and sustainably, the Conservancy seeks a passionate, experienced, and committed Director of Development.

The mission of the Conservancy is to acquire, preserve, and protect Native American sacred lands through protective land management, educational programs, and scientific study. The Director of Development must be committed to the Conservancy’s values of tribal sovereignty, protecting sacred sites, and environmental stewardship, and must also recognize the unique role that tribes play in stewarding and managing natural resources to protect against climate change and environmental degradation.

Position Summary

The Director of Development serves the mission of the Conservancy by designing, implementing, and collaborating on development programs that establish and promote positive, productive relationships between the Conservancy and tribes, foundations, and donors. The Director assures that these mission-critical relationships for the Conservancy are strategically designed, developed, nurtured, and maintained, and focuses programs on the alignment of current and future goals of the Conservancy.

As the Conservancy seeks to grow its capacity and reach, the Director will play a pivotal role in building the organization and in leading its growth. Duties include constituency relations, events management, fund-raising, marketing, and evaluation.

The Director makes independent judgments and participates in collaborative decision-making regarding “friend-building” goals and designs, executes, and evaluates key programs to meet these goals.
