Overview of the Position:

The Development Manager is responsible for overseeing outreach to and cultivation of the Alliance Center’s major donors, corporate partners, and foundation contacts. This position will work closely with the Development Director and Executive Director to ensure the organization reaches its foundation and major donor fundraising goals.

Responsibilities:

Major Donor Program Management – 50 %: Oversee interactions and outreach to major donors and prospects to ultimately increase engagement and monetary commitment to the organization.

  • Managing tracking, data, and calendars: Track goals to actuals for major donor income, manage input of call and meeting notes into salesforce database, and ensure that donation requests are being made in a strategic and timely manner.
  • Leading moves management for the development department: Ensure that donors are thanked, cultivated, stewarded and engaged in multiple ways throughout the year.
  • Managing call time: Oversee call time planning, execution and follow-up with the executive director and development director; keep timely records of conversations and important takeaways from call time in database.
  • Increasing donor gifts: Help develop strategies for donors in the $1,000+ range to give more to the organization annually and overtime
  • Cultivating mid-level donors: Develop and implement a special campaign to move mid-level donors ($250-$999) to the major donor category.
  • Researching new donors: Spearhead efforts to research prospective donors and strategize ways to add them to the organization’s portfolio.
  • Leading diverse outreach: Work strategically to expand donor outreach to more diverse audiences, both geographically and racially/ethnically.

Grants Program Management –   30%: Ensure that reporting and proposal deadlines are met and grant proposals, reports, and letters are of the highest quality and are submitted in a timely and organized way.

  • Packaging and editing grants: Ensure that grant writer and program staff is prepped to create content for proposals and reports, and manage executive director and development director’s time for final editing. Compile and send to funder contact(s) when complete.

  • Leading moves management for the development department: Ensure that funders are thanked, cultivated, stewarded and engaged in multiple ways throughout the year.
  • Researching new funders: Spearhead efforts to research prospective funders and strategize ways to add them to the organization’s portfolio.

General Development Support –   20 %: Participate in events and organizational activities to further the growth and impact of the organization.

  • Identifying event opportunities: Present cultivation event ideas to the executive director and/or the development director and work with events manager to carry them out successfully.
  • Overseeing donor engagement at events: Assist in planning and execution of fundraising events. Ensure that donors and supporters are strategically engaged in and invited to our key programmatic events.

Other items:

  • Assist in weekly gift processing via letter signing and gift coding.
  • Assist with the creation of the overall development strategy for the organization
  • Actively participate in achieving other organizational priorities as the need arises.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail: Everything you send out is accurate (right content, no misspellings, grammatical errors, etc.) and precise (reflects nuances, captures subtleties, etc.) and “fits” the situation (should have our “look and feel”).
  • Interpersonal intelligence: You possess the ability to create and cultivate strong, genuine relationships with and generate respect and trust from individuals and stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving orientation: You bring ideas to the table instead of just problems and are able to think quickly in the direction of solutions that will create immediate success as well as long-term gains.
  • Efficient and hardworking: You have a demonstrated ability to maintain grace under pressure and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Passionate about a better world: You are devoted to finding solutions that are good for the economy, the environment and ALL communities. Basic knowledge of sustainability is a must as this is the concept you are ‘selling’ through your work. Passionate about equity and open to learning and exploring what this means with the team and our partners.

Additional Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of fundraising experience preferred but not required.
  • Belief in the importance of sustainability and the integrated bottom line.
  • Effective team worker and welcomes collaboration.

  • Exceptional level of authenticity and integrity.

Reports to Whom:  Director of Development      

Classification, Compensation, Schedule, & Benefits:

This is a full-time salaried, exempt position. The salary pay is between $45,000 and $55,000, dependent on qualifications.

Schedule: The Alliance Center offers a flexible work schedule that can fit the applicant’s needs. Some evenings and weekends may be required to fulfill the duties of this position.
