Position Description
The Delaware County Community Organizer will be responsible for implementing Clean Air Council’s outreach, organizing, education, and advocacy work in Marcus Hook, Trainer, and Chester, PA. The organizer will be working in three program areas: environmental justice, air quality monitoring and watershed protection. The organizer will work to support Marcus Hook, Trainer, and Chester area residents in gaining an understanding of local environmental issues and health impacts from industrial facilities, raising their concerns with decision makers at the local, county, and state level, and advocating for positive change. The organizer will mainly support the implementation of an air quality monitoring program and will also support parts of a watershed protection campaign. The organizer will be a part of the Council’s Delaware County Environmental Justice team, which includes the Delaware County Advocacy Coordinator and the Delaware County Programs Director.

Responsibilities
General Environmental Justice Organizing
● Educate the public, including residents and local groups, about pollution impacts to
public health and the environment from industrial facilities
● Teach residents how to recognize potential pollution incidents and report them to the appropriate agencies.

● Organize and support residents in testifying at public meetings and submitting
public comments about pollution concerns
EPA Air Quality Monitoring Program (80-90%)
● Work with the Delaware County EJ team to implement a community outreach and
engagement plan, including activities such as organizing events, tabling at community
events, and knocking doors
● Outreach to residents, businesses, and organizations to recruit them to host air monitors as part of the two-year program
● Assist residents in installing monitors and follow-up with them to ensure monitors
are functioning properly and that they know how to read the monitors and collect
data
● Support the distribution and presentation of air quality monitoring data and reports
(developed by our experts) to community members and local stakeholders
Watershed Protections Program (10-20%)
● Work with the Delaware County EJ team to support ongoing watershed protection
work including: watching/dogging pollution sources, supporting outreach to
residents around permit applications and renewals for industrial facilities,
encouraging residents to submit public comments and/or attend public hearings,
engaging residents and groups in advocating for stronger water quality protections
on industrial polluters, and supporting other watershed related meetings, projects,
and events

Qualifications
● Previous experience in community outreach, community organizing, advocacy
campaigns, teaching, or work that required similar skills
● Knowledge of local community assets and concerns
● Excellent written and oral communications skills
● Public speaking experience is a plus
Other Considerations
● The Council will prioritize candidates that live in or near Marcus Hook, Trainer, and/ or the City of Chester, PA
● Some local travel may be required. (the Council will cover the cost of public
transportation, mileage reimbursement, or rental cars)
● Some occasional evening and weekends may be required

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $40,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience and skills.
