POSITION SUMMARY

The Grants and Scholarship Manager is responsible for developing and managing the organization’s Climate Justice for All Grants and Scholarship programs. This position will review applications and select recipients, communicate with awardees, assist with grant agreements and monitor grant progress, oversee budget allocation, manage travel logistics, and work with other teams on post-engagement strategies.

Currently reporting to the Climate and Environmental Justice Director, the Grants and Scholarship Manager has one direct report, the Scholarships and Grants Associate.

This is a hybrid role that requires a two day minimum per week work requirement in our downtown Washington DC office.  The salary for the role is $81,696/year.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create an environment where supervisees feel comfortable sharing ideas and suggestions
  • Assign work that is both manageable and appropriate to supervisees’ level of experience
  • Provide guidance and support when needed
  • Support supervisees’ professional development by providing opportunities to put skills into practice and connecting supervisees to other advocates, experts, mentors, and resources
  • Manage the creation, implementation, and maintenance of procedures and processes for the scholarship and grants programs after coordination with multiple departments
  • With strategic direction from the department director, manage the day-to-day operations of the grants and scholarship programs and how they relate to organizational priorities, partnership management, recruitment opportunities, campaigns, and more
  • Serve as the organization’s primary substantive liaison for grant and scholarship applicants and recipient questions, logistics, communications, and more
  • Lead outreach strategy for grants and scholarship through the creation of informational materials and recruitment strategies, working in conjunction with other departments
  • Determine the parameters within regulatory compliance for grant and scholarship recipients, budgetary needs, and distribution of funds
  • Coordinate with the Special Projects team and outside vendors to arrange travel logistics for scholarship recipients
  • Manages the grant and scholarship programs’ budgets  and ensure funds are allocated efficiently.
  • Monitor grantees performance and support the preparation of reports, memos, data summaries on the program’s outcomes, as needed.
  • Steward long-term engagement strategies as they relate to grants and scholarship recipients with internal and external stakeholders
  • Responsible for onsite logistics for scholarship administration, data collection, and scholarship program specific needs at trainings
  • Represent the Strategic Partnerships Department in organizational meetings and projects as necessary
  • Represent Climate Reality at domestic and international events and meetings when needed
  • Support and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our operations and enrichment of our culture, for example by serving on ad hoc or ongoing work groups, assisting with the onboarding and training of colleagues, and participating in efforts to assess, refine, and strengthen our culture and practices
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Relevant experience in nonprofit work, project or event management, or engagement (a focus on climate issues highly encouraged)
  • Experience in working with communities to cultivate issue knowledge and advocacy
  • Financial and budgetary experience as related to programs or events preferred
  • Awareness and appreciation for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders, personalities, and leadership styles
  • Ability to travel
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational/project management skills working across multiple teams
  • Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Has between 2-4 years of experience
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the United States and international environmental justice movement

  7. Climate Reality Mission and Focus: Is passionate about Climate Reality’s role and mission and can act as a Climate Reality ambassador to a diverse set of audiences; stays up-to-date on climate trends, impacts and solutions.
