Full-Time Program Communications Manager: Atlanta, GA Office

Job Description

The Southern Environmental Law Center is seeking a skilled communications strategist to join our team for a three-year position. We are seeking this position to provide additional capacity at a time when we are facing significant environmental threats at the federal level. This is an excellent opportunity to join an organization that is successfully addressing some of the most important and challenging environmental issues facing the Southeast and the nation during a critical time.

 

About the position:

The program communications manager will oversee communications efforts for our work in Tennessee, as well as providing support for our communications in Georgia and Alabama. This person will develop communications strategies and oversee the successful implementation of all facets of program communications work, from messaging and media relations to digital and advertising strategies.

The program communications manager will be based in our Atlanta office but the position will include traveling monthly to our Nashville office to work with our staff, partners, and media there. The program communications manager will work under the leadership of the director of program communications and our Atlanta program communications manager, and in close collaboration with our communications and program teams.

 

Qualifications:

We are seeking someone with a minimum seven years of demonstrated experience in communications, preferably advocacy-oriented communications, as well as excellent academic credentials. Our ideal candidate has the following qualities:

  • Track record managing multi-channel communications campaigns
  • Significant experience working with media and establishing strong relationships with reporters
  • Excellent communicator and writer with the ability to translate complex topics into compelling stories
  • Strong strategic sense with ability to understand diverse range of work
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and ability to balance and prioritize several initiatives
  • A team player with the ability to work collaboratively
  • Understanding of web and digital strategies
  • Familiarity with environmental issues and a strong personal commitment to SELC’s mission
