Position Description: The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UW-Stevens Point) College of Natural Resources (CNR) is seeking two full-time (9-month), tenure track faculty who will have 100% teaching appointments in the Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management (HDNRM) Discipline. The successful applicants will teach up to 12 credit hours each semester during the academic year. We are seeking applicants to teach courses that focus on civic engagement, heritage interpretation, and public participation in natural resource management. The primary courses will be Natural Resources and Public Relations, Integrated Resource Management, team-taught introductory courses, and other opportunities as the needs of the discipline and interests of the candidate would allow.

 

The successful candidates will be expected to advise undergraduate and graduate students. Opportunities exist for involvement in research, outreach, and international programs to meet University scholarship and service requirements. The positions report directly to the Dean of the College. Experience in and desire to work with diverse populations of learners and stakeholders is expected. The successful candidates may be required to teach in the Summer Field Experience for additional compensation.

 

Department/University Description: The Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management Discipline is in the College of Natural Resources (CNR) at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (ww.uwsp.edu/cnr/). The CNR has approximately 1,700 undergraduates, 100 graduate students, and over 130 faculty and staff. The college supports the undergraduate natural resource program with disciplines in Fisheries and Water Resources, Forestry, Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management, Soil and Water Resources, Wildlife Ecology, and the Department of Paper Science and Engineering.

Qualifications:

Required:

-Ph.D or J.D. complete or near completion, or other appropriate doctoral degree in human dimensions of natural resource management, environmental policy/law, natural resource communication, interpretation/environmental education, planning, or related field by the date of the appointment. The doctoral degree must be earned by time of first retention decision.

– Broad training with the ability to reach a variety of human dimensions-related subject matter

– Strong verbal and written communication skills are required

Preferred:

– Demonstrated excellence in teaching

– Agency or NGO public participation experience in policy making

– Experience with GIS

– Relevant experience and a demonstrated understanding on natural resource management, communication/interpretation, policy, public participation and civic engagement

– A Bachelor’s degree in a land or water management-based discipline (e.g., aquatic ecology, fisheries) is preferred, as it will facilitate the candidate’s ability to teach in the Summer Field Experience

 

Appointment Date: January 2017

 

Terms of Employment: This is an Assistant or Associate Professor, tenure track, full-time, academic appointment (9 months). Salary is commensurate with education and professional experience.
