Position Summary

Do you thrive on the fast-paced, rapid-response nature of communications work? Are you looking to take your media relations skills and to the next level? Do you enjoy translating opposition research into easily-pitches and documents for reporters? Then the Press Secretary role could be for you. A.US seeks a Press Secretary to support its work to hold corporations and policymakers accountable as we pave the way for progressive policies to take root. This position requires incredible attention to detail, superior organizational abilities, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Monitor opportunities to advance our project’s values, positions, and brand;
  • Build and maintain press lists;
  • Draft and edits talking points, press releases, op-eds, memos, and other materials as needed;
  • Send mass emails, press releases, and posts materials online;
  • Produce detailed reports of project activities;
  • Pitch print, broadcast, and new media reporters, editors, and producers when appropriate and in consultation with the project deputy director;
  • Develop graphics and social media posts;
  • Update websites, blog posts, and other digital mediums;
  • Represent the project and coordinate with partners by attending meetings and conference calls in consultation with the project deputy director; and
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Required Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Ability

  • 2-3 years in communications, public relations, or advocacy;
  • Issue advocacy, political campaign, and strategic experience preferred;
  • Strong writing skills for both press and general audiences. Writing should be sharp, personable, and memorable;
  • Social media content creation and management;
  • Basic graphic design and website management skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work independently and juggle competing priorities and strict deadlines;
  • A proven track record for being a self-starter;
  • Immaculate attention to detail;
  • Commitment to watchdog accountability; and
  • Interest in and/or demonstrates a commitment to issues surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.

Compensation & Benefits

The minimum salary for this position is $60,000. Exact compensation package is commensurate with experience. Our excellent benefits package includes health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, short and long-term disability, a 401(k) match, generous paid time off, professional development opportunities, and more. During the pandemic, all Accountable.US employees are working remotely. Some weekend work may be required.
