Direct Reports: This position does not manage other positions

Salary: $50,000


General Overview:  The Regional Organizer is responsible for supporting chapters across the Midwest region of the United States, working with Chapter Chairs and Leadership Committee members to provide resources, trainings, and dedicated support. This position will work closely with Chapters running or interested in running Climate Reality campaigns, build tools for them to use and amplify amongst their Chapter membership, help to train organizers, and generally act as a personal point of contact for engaged volunteers. As a representative of the Engagement team, this position also assists in efforts to meet strategic program and organizational goals through outreach and partnership-building with new constituencies, building strong relationships within this region. States served in this region include North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

This is a remote position based in Illinois. Occasional travel to the Washington, DC office may be required when the office reopens post-pandemic.

Duties and Responsibilities

 Chapter Support (65%)

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Working with the Chapters team to recruit, onboard, and support new Climate Reality chapters.
  • Providing on-going support, follow up, and leadership development to chapters.
  • Conducting monthly one-on-one calls with chapter chairs to build lasting relationships with them as their point person on staff and helping to lead monthly national leadership calls.
  • Facilitating coalition spaces, meet-ups and retreats between regional chapters to foster peer learning, development, and state-level advocacy action.
  • Training Climate Reality chapters on campaigns and organizing skills through developing Chapter Training Series curriculum content and acting as a skill trainer for webinars and in-person training events.
  • Building organizational storytelling capacity by compiling chapter narratives, accomplishments, and photos to share with both internal and external audiences.
  • Adhering and contributing to strong data management practices and program metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Campaign Support (35%)

Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Serving as a resource for your chapters and the organization on regionally relevant issues and campaigns.
  • Building and maintaining regional partnerships and identify strategic coalition spaces for Climate Reality and our chapters to join.
  • Supporting chapters as they run Climate Reality campaigns, with support from the Campaign Strategist and Chapter Engagement Manager.
  • Supporting the creation and implementation of chapter-specific campaign plans by providing feedback on plans and coaching through prioritization of actions to create impact.
  • Tracking the progress of chapter-led campaigns and chapter development in coordination with the Chapters Team.
  • Adhering and contributing to strong data management practices and program metrics.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of organizing, advocacy or volunteer engagement experience.
  • Experience with federal, state, and/or local legislative advocacy helpful.
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience and awareness of cultural diversity, ability to work effectively with a diverse group of organizations and volunteers.
  • Preference for grassroots organizing experience with a focus on environmental/climate justice.
  • CRM experience preferred.
  • Good time management and organization skills.
  • Solution oriented in the management of potential challenges
  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively
  • Demonstrable strategic thinker and problem-solving acumen
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated and committed to excellence
  • A dedication to solving the climate crisis.
