POSITION SUMMARY

The Youth Engagement Associate is responsible for supporting the development, expansion, and management of  Climate Reality youth engagement programs to support youth activists in pursuing real solutions for the climate crisis. This position will support the program manager and the larger Global Youth Programs team in strategic campaign planning and implementation, event and logistical planning, coalition, and movement building. This position may require some weekend work and domestic travel.

Currently reporting to the Youth Engagement Manager, the Youth Engagement Associate has no direct reports.

The salary for the role is $56,374/year gross.

Duties and Responsibilities

GENERAL

  • Provide organizing and chapter support to Climate Reality’s youth leadership development programs ,  to run advocacy trainings, host days-of-action, and drive targeted grassroots campaigns
  • Communicate with Climate Reality Leaders ages 29 and under as well as students in the volunteer network
  • Work with the Youth Engagement Program Manager to support global youth engagement initiatives and scaled programs, including coordination with Climate Reality Branches.
  • Support the Field and Campaigns teams in developing resources and materials and leading webinars or workshops for Climate Reality Leaders and chapters as is relevant to deepening youth and intergenerational engagement.
  • Maintain electronic records of campaign metrics and narratives as needed
  • Assist in the development of the Youth Engagement social media strategy
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, and post-training engagement of Youth Climate Reality Leaders and Climate Reality youth campaigns members and volunteers under the age of 30 through digital and on-the-ground programming at Climate Reality Leadership Corps Trainings
  • Work with the Campaigns team to support development of youth oriented pathways in the organization’s global campaigns.Support  the Green Schools Campaign and coordinate with Field and Campaigns team to promote chapter and Leader participation in initiative.
  • Building relationships and coalitions with youth activists and youth justice organizations, as well as identifying strategic engagement opportunities for Climate Reality members to get involved.
  • Track and report campaign metrics and narratives as needed
  • Support and contribute to the ongoing improvement of our operations and enrichment of our culture, for example by serving on ad hoc or ongoing work groups, assisting with the onboarding and training of colleagues, and participating in efforts to assess, refine, and strengthen our culture and practices
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • HBCU, campus and student organizing experience preferred
  • Experience in event and logistical planning
  • Experience working in a coalition
  • Understanding of the intersections between climate, racial, and economic justice
  • Dedication to solving the climate crisis and environmental justice
  • Willingness to travel
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, particularly advocacy writing
  • Good time management and organization skills

  • Capable of balancing multiple priorities effectively

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer required

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree—or equivalent experience
  • Has between 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of organizing communities, leading climate change campaigns, and cultural diversity
  • Proven track record with coalition building, political organizing, grassroots, or field campaign organizing
