Habitat Stewards Program Coordinator with the National Wildlife Federation, Seattle Office

With the goal to increase wildlife habitat stewardship through outreach, support, field experiences, and facilitating hands-on Habitat Stewards volunteer trainings to connect all people with NWF resources and local volunteering and educational opportunities. This Habitat Stewards Programs Coordinator position is best suited for someone who is enthusiastic (no need to be an expert) about the Washington environment, habitat restoration, and volunteer stewardship – and can use that energy to connect people with our programs, trainings, and resources and support volunteers. They’ll have the ability to thrive independently in a multiple task environment, can relate easily and openly with people, strong organizational and communication skills, relevant work or volunteer experience in conservation, outreach, trainings, or volunteer coordination.

AmeriCorps Service Term:  September 1^st, 2023 – July 15^th, 2024

Program year 2023-24 benefits:

• Monthly stipend of $2,141 or $2,548 before deductions and withholdings (this position specifically, see below)
• $6,895 education award that can be used for future schooling or to pay off existing qualified student loan debt
• Basic health insurance (not including vision coverage)
• 24/7 professional counseling and support services
• Workers compensation coverage
• Assistance with childcare costs
• Forbearance (temporarily postponing paying off a loan) of qualified student loans during the service term
• Payment of interest on qualified student loans that accrued during the service term (paid after successful completion of service term)
• Serving in a full-time AmeriCorps position qualifies as “employment” towards the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program
• Probable eligibility to receive SNAP benefits, bus passes, and other discounts in the community
• 20% of your service time can be spent on professional development
• Network with local community partners and within a national organization

We are excited to share that our recent funding request to increase the minimum member stipend amount for eligible, low-income WSC enrollees has been approved for the upcoming 2023-24 program year! This means that enrollees living in households earning less than 200% of the federal poverty level at the time of enrollment may qualify for an increased stipend, equating to the current Washington State minimum wage. The increased stipend level is equivalent to current Washington State minimum wage. It comes out to a 10.5 month term at $2,548 per month.  If you find that you are not eligible, then you would receive the current Tier 2 Stipend of $2,141 a month and all benefits.
