Buzzards Bay Coalition is a membership organization dedicated to the restoration, protection and sustainable use and enjoyment of Buzzards Bay, Vineyard Sound and their watershed lands. As the premier conservation organization serving southeastern Massachusetts, the Coalition works to improve the health of the coastal ecosystem for all through education, conservation, research and advocacy. It works throughout the entire Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound watersheds to protect the region’s coastal, river and drinking water quality and the upland forests, wetlands and streams that support a healthy watershed/bay ecosystem.

Buzzards Bay Coalition is seeking an entrepreneurial, innovative and thoughtful strategic leader to join the organization at a critical moment of growth and expansion. The Vice President of Operations (Vice President) will be a key leader, driving new processes and systems across the organization and further developing the infrastructure needed for a rapidly growing organization. As a key partner with the President & CEO and a dedicated member of the senior management team, the VP of Operations will serve to advance the Coalition as it expands its operation, impact and influence in the years ahead.

The Coalition seeks an accomplished leader who demonstrates a keen understanding of and passion for the organization’s unique mission. This person must be ready to join with the President & CEO, staff and Board to assist the Coalition in pursuing its strategic goals through knowledge of and experience with principles, practices and methods of strategic leadership, finance, operations and management.

The ideal candidate will have a background that includes a high-level of strategic management combined with a sophisticated leadership approach. A strong understanding of strategies and a track record of measurable success in the pursuit of financial management, operations, human resources, facilities and compliance is important. Demonstrated progressive, successful experience with accounting, budget planning, contract management and administration is required.

The ideal candidate will be both a strong and effective leader and a strong listener with an inclusive, team-oriented management style that inspires, empowers, motivates and develops staff. Commitment to enhancing a culture focused on diversity, equity and inclusion is critical. Experience successfully leading and building a diverse team is desired. Strong candidates will exhibit a highly collaborative and compassionate management approach.

The candidate will also have a keen ability to establish and maintain a productive and positive organizational culture with all stakeholders (i.e., staff, partners, members, boards and commissions, government officials and others). They will have experience establishing and implementing new processes and systems within an organization and measuring the success of efficiencies in a quantifiable manner. Experience working with a highly engaged Board and significant volunteer base is beneficial.
The individual must be confident, thoughtful and have the appropriate skills and presence to work in an effective, collegial and collaborative manner across the state and region. Management experience of 5-7 years in the fields of finance, administration and/or human resources required. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required.

Starting salary level is $150,000 with a competitive benefits package.
