The Opportunity

Washington County is seeking an individual to join our County Administrative Office as a Sustainability Program Manager. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, guiding, and coordinating Washington County’s efforts to implement sustainable practices, including leading Board of Commissioner approved policies and strategies to address climate change within the County organization and externally with jurisdictional partners. Knowledge of sustainability programs, policy development, climate action planning, and sustainable principles (3Es: environment, economy, equity) is required for this position.

  7. Effective communication and active listening skills that prioritize transparency and empathy with others.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience and Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, science, engineering, planning, environmental studies, public administration or management or other related field; AND three (3) years of professional experience developing, managing, delivering and evaluating sustainability, climate action or recycling programs, which includes at least one (1) year of staff supervision; OR
  • An Associate degree in sustainability, science, engineering, planning, environmental studies, public administration or management or other related field; AND five (5) years of professional developing, managing, delivering and evaluating sustainability, climate action or recycling programs, which includes at least one (1) year of staff supervision; OR
  • Seven (7) years of professional experience developing, managing, delivering and evaluating sustainability, climate action or recycling programs, which includes at least one (1) year of staff supervision.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Certification or specialized training in the following areas: public management, sustainability leadership, sustainability analytics, climate change, master recycler or graduate certificate in sustainability. Examples of relevant certifications include Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED GA or LEED AP), International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP-SA or ISSP-CSP), Certified Climate Change Professional (CC-P) and Project Management Professional (PMP).

Position Specific Requirements

  • Must have the ability to arrange for timely transportation in order to attend required appointments and meetings at off-site locations.
