Full-Time Sustainability Administrator

Job Description

The City of Beverly Hills is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Sustainability Administrator. The incumbent of this position will plan, organize, and direct the activities of the City’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). This role will also be responsible for the City’s resiliency and sustainability programs, as well as serving as a City representative for sustainability programs and initiatives.

Salary: $114,311.88 – $142,017.24 Annually

Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

  • Experience: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in resiliency, sustainability and environmental programs which has included project management and fiscal oversight responsibilities; including two years of supervisory responsibility.
  • Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Engineering, Environmental or Earth Science, Planning, Public Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree in Engineering, Environmental or Earth Science, Planning, Public Administration, or closely related field is desirable.

License and Certificate

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
  • Possession of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP) Certificate from the U.S. Green Building Council is desirable.
  • Possession of Certified Energy Manager certificate is desirable.
  • Possession of Envision Sustainability Professional certificate is desirable.

Examples of Essential Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee, direct, and participate in the development and implementation of the City’s Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) and sustainability program work plans.
  • Recommend and implement sustainability program goals and objectives; develop, implement, and enforce comprehensive strategies, policies, and procedures for sustainability initiatives; develop timetables and work plans to achieve program goals and objectives; coordinate program initiatives, projects, and activities.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive and strategic community outreach and engagement initiatives to support public conservation and sustainability programs and priorities.
  • Serve as the principal contact for sustainability programs, projects, and activities; serve as a City representative at internal and external meetings on committees, task forces, and citizen and community work groups; work collaboratively with all stakeholders and provide support as assigned.
  • Review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures; evaluate operations and activities of assigned responsibilities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various reports on operations and activities.
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of sustainability program staff.
  • Participate in budget preparation and administration; prepare sustainability program cost estimates for budget recommendations including work plans and multi-year forecasts; monitor and control expenditures.
  • Review grant applications and materials and oversee the implementation of grant programs.
  • Determine staff training needs, provide, recommend, and coordinate staff development and training activities; evaluate staff work and performance to ensure that assigned staff provide a high degree of customer service to both internal and external customers; assist staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, methods, and procedures.
  • Prepare presentations and make recommendations to City staff, City Council, boards, commissions, professional groups, community organizations, and various national, regional, and state agencies; provide programmatic updates as needed and requested.
