The Clean Energy States Alliance (CESA) seeks a Summer Research Assistant. CESA is a national, nonprofit coalition of public agencies and organizations working together to advance clean energy. CESA members—mostly state agencies—include many of the most innovative, successful, and influential public funders of clean energy initiatives in the country. For more information, see www.cesa.org.

Location: Work remotely

Availability: The position is available for 320 hours beginning in late-May 2023.

Position Description

The Research Assistant will carry out research, data collection, and administrative tasks related to CESA’s solar programs. Responsibilities will include:

  • Research and develop case studies of collaboration between state energy agencies and community-based organizations to implement solar projects in marginalized communities.
  • Help organize virtual focus groups of community-based organizations from around the country on relevant solar topics.
  • Help CESA staff prepare for a national virtual workshop of state energy agencies and community-based organizations working in solar, including outreach to participants and developing materials.
  • Research information on community solar for low-income communities, including identifying resources for state energy agencies to address common obstacles to implementing low-income community solar and inputting those resources into a database.
  • Support meetings of a Low-Income Community Solar working group, including researching potential topics for discussion and assist with facilitating meetings.
  • Carry out other research and administrative tasks as necessary.

Desired Qualifications and Experience

  • This position is appropriate for a person with an undergraduate degree, an upper-level undergraduate, or equivalent working experience
  • Strong organizational and research skills.
  • Interest in solar for low-income communities
  • Understanding of environmental justice issues
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Experience working remotely

Pay Rate

  • $20/hour for undergraduates; $22/hour for applicants with an undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience
