Position Description

The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on a mission to equitably decarbonize buildings in this decade to improve the livability of our communities. Our partnerships with local communities, government leaders, and businesses provide unique insights into how to make this vision a reality.

In July of 2023, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $90 million in competitive awards to help states, cities, tribes, and partnering organizations implement updated energy codes for buildings. IMT was awarded $5 million to support a cohort of jurisdictions through a community-led process to design and implement building performance standards and supporting policies that focus on decarbonizing existing buildings over a three year period. This project will involve 8-10 places, including states, and IMT will be working collaboratively with 7 partner organizations and more than 10 community-based organizations.

The Senior Manager will lead on the project management side of this exciting, national-scale initiative. IMT seeks a detail-oriented, organized, results-oriented individual to project manager for IMT’s recently awarded project, Supporting Equitable Building Performance and to support coordination of our federal strategy.  The position reports to Senior Director, Building and Energy Performance.

Responsibilities

Supporting Equitable Building Performance Project Management (80% of LOE)

Under the direction of the project leadership, this position is responsible for:

  • Developing and maintaining work plans in close coordination with other IMT staff to keep activities of the project on schedule and to ensure successful accomplishment of project milestones. This will include planning and facilitating regular team meetings and following up on identified next steps
  • Monitoring delivery of services from partners for compliance and fulfillment of commitments
    • Under the direction of IMT’s technical leads, review and provide feedback on technical deliverables created as part of the project scope
  • Working with IMT’s operations team, tracks and maintain SEBP budget, expenses, and projected spend down rate
  • Developing reporting templates for SEBP project locations, synthesizes findings and outcomes of the reporting cycles, and puts solutions into motion that ensure SEBP meets its ambitious goals
  • Other duties as assigned

Federal Strategy Coordination (20% of LOE)

  • Support the Senior Director, Building and Energy Performance, in tracking, assessing, and disseminating federal funding opportunities that support IMT’s mission and goals
  • Track announcements of Requests for Information (RFIs) and funding opportunities, working closely with IMT’s Development team and program sector leads, identifying relevant IMT work sector connections and helping to prioritize opportunities per IMT strategic plan
  • Assist in crafting RFI and Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA)/Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) responses in conjunction with program staff and strategic partners
  • Hold biweekly meetings to present new opportunities and track progress of planned responses
  • Coordinate sign-ons to RFI responses, advocacy letters, and other letters of interest

Qualifications and Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in a relevant role to include experience working as a project manager on a multi-dimensional project that involved external partners. Experience working on a federally funded project preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the buildings field with an emphasis on energy efficiency, building performance or codes, preferred.
  • Commitment to advancing social and environmental justice
  • Outstanding interpersonal, organization and time management skills;
  • Ability to take initiative, manage multiple projects, and prioritize effectively;
  • Excellent writing, editing, presentation, and communications skills;
  • Demonstrated ability as a self-starter, able to think creatively in establishing the program and to work effectively in a fast-moving, rapidly-developing environment
