About the Role:

BoxPower is currently looking for an inquisitive, forward thinking, process oriented Sr. Project Engineer. Our product team is ramping up, and this role will support our forward trajectory and increased project load. This is an exciting role for a creative engineering professional to be able to work on a rapidly developing utilities technology.  This role reports to the Director of Engineering.  The salary range for this role is $95,000 to $120,000 depending on experience and extended responsibilities.  This role can be performed remotely or at BoxPower HQ in Grass Valley, CA. Two weeks of travel per quarter are required to site or to Grass Valley HQ.

Responsibilities:

  • Managing product documentation and standardization including electrical plans for power systems and controls, sequence of operations, conduit/cable schedules, and any drawing that  defines the electrical system of the energy storage systems
  • Managing and implementing product development roadmaps, which includes conduction cost and feasibility analysis based on product requirements and expectations as it applies to products with electrical design
  • Leading R&D efforts and applying for R&D grants including conceptual designs of energy storage systems
  • Leading patent application and IP protection efforts for energy storage system products
  • Working with engineering and production to track product development and iteration and apply changes to the product documentation
  • Providing technical support to sales and marketing teams for electrical questions pertaining to the products
  • Becoming a subject matter expert on our business’ products, processes and operations, and remain up-to-date on industry news
  • Designs energy systems for BoxPower projects and products including spec’ing power equipment and controls systems based on project and product requirements
  • Support field service with commissioning, troubleshooting & servicing energy storage systems
  • Manages vendor relationships for the product development for energy systems, including outsourced engineering and OEM manufactures (senior responsibility)
  • Supports project engineers and product managers with the development of electrical diagrams, control operation designs, and mechanical requirements of the system (senior responsibility)
  • Develops system operations expectations and oversees the commissioning and testing of the system to insure appropriate operation of system prior to and during project deployment (senior responsibility)
  • Specify and approve equipment and material choices used for products (senior responsibility)
  • Function as the project engineering when custom systems are being developed for projects (senior responsibility)
  • Manage a team of product engineers in developing new products (senior responsibility)

Skills and Qualifications:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience (min)
  • 5+ years of experience applying working principles for product development with energy storage systems
  • Experience working under electrical engineer (preferred)
  • Must be proficient in technical drawing (AutoCAD preferred)
  • Relevant training and/or certifications in energy system engineering (preferred)
  • Familiarity with solar, inverter, battery, and generator technologies from 15-250kW
  • Ability to work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Proven track record of successfully designing and overseeing manufacturing of products
  • Autonomous & self-motivated
  • Ability to understand company and customer requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of materials
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience demonstrating good judgement in selection methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
  • Working knowledge of specific process technologies, procedures, products and applications
