Full-Time Senior, Lead or Senior Lead Environmental Specialist
Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Environmental Specialist at the Senior, Lead or Senior Lead level (dependent on experience) within the Technical and Environmental Services Group at our Headquarters facility in Millersville, MD. This position will manage, or assist in managing, portions of work as a member of a multidisciplinary team of environmental scientists, engineers and GIS professionals. The ideal candidate will be familiar with the practices and principals of hazard mitigation, floodplain management, resiliency, and climate change. This position may develop and give professional presentations to staff, state agencies, local governments, and other stakeholder groups, support development of proposals and budgets, assist with grant identification, development, writing, and submission. The selected candidate may also manage junior and mid-level staff and their associated workloads.
Minimum education requirements for each classification include a Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, ecology or a related field from an accredited college or university plus:
Senor Environmental Specialist – three years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management. One year of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to professional and technical staff.
Lead Environmental Specialist – five years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management. Two years of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to professional and technical staff.
Senior Lead Environmental Specialist – six years of experience in environmental science, regulations, engineering or management. Three years of experience must have included responsibility managing environmental projects and providing leadership to professional and technical staff.
Applicants may substitute an applicable advanced education degree for up to two years of required experience. Must have a valid driver’s license with less than 5 points.
Preferred candidates will have experience with FEMA hazard mitigation programs, (National Flood Insurance Program, Hazard Mitigation Assistance) and other components of Risk Map, FEMA’s mapping program, in addition to grant and technical document writing skills. Existing AICP or CFM certification is also a plus.

Estimated Pay Range:
$43,810.47 – $102,046.56
