The Opportunity.

The position will operate within the hive summer camp and will report to the Manager of Family & Youth Programs/Camp Director. The Special Education Coordinator must have a deep understanding of behavioral modification and child development. They will value collaborative, interdisciplinary, place-based education and the intersections of art, nature, and science.

The position is an hourly, seasonal role without benefits. The Special Education Coordinator will work 20-35 hours per week from June 28–August 6, 2021.

In This Role You Will:

  • Ensure proper completion and documentation of administrative duties as they relate to camper accommodations and modifications

  • Take lead in coordinating and implementing behavioral strategy plans for campers

  • Assist Camp Director with staff training as it relates to discipline and behavioral policies and expectations

  • Support Instructors and Junior Instructors before and during camp

  • Support individual camper behaviors and needs, sometimes requiring one-on-one supervision

  • Communicate with camper parents as necessary

  • Support the overall operations of camp, including oversee camp lunch hours as needed

Qualifications:

  • Obtained a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education, child development, or other relevant course of study

  • Experience working on a team required 

  • Minimum of two years’ experience working with children with diverse needs, abilities, and interests 

  • Effective communicator; strong interpersonal skills: helpful, calm, friendly demeanor 

  • Ability to prioritize and to work both collaboratively and independently 

  • Must have a sense of fun

  • Experience in collaborative, interdisciplinary, place-based education is preferred

  •  The ideal candidate will have an interest in the intersections of art, nature, and science 

  • Strong organizational abilities with extreme attention to detail
