The Organization
 
Climate Integrate is Japan’s first independent non-profit climate policy think tank and was established in 2022 by the internationally recognized climate advocate, Dr. Kimiko Hirata.

With a mission to accelerate decarbonization within society, business, and the public sector in Japan and globally, Climate Integrate conducts research, engagement, and diplomacy in Japan, providing insights and information to support multi-stakeholders’ global efforts to decarbonize.

Dr. Hirata was awarded the 2021 Goldman Environmental Prize and was selected as one of the BBC’s Top 100 Women in 2022 for her work to phase-out Japanese coal and for her advocacy for sustainable finance in Japan. Climate Integrate has a high-profile board of directors and advisors and has recently released two high-impact research papers in collaboration with global climate think tanks.

The Role

Reporting directly to the executive director, Dr. Hirata, your critical role will directly contribute to Climate Integrate’s mission to limit global temperature rises by accelerating policy change and action in Japan. To achieve this, you will conduct research and analysis on global decarbonization. Specifically, your role will be to:

  • Research Japanese and global climate-related finance policy and ESG investment
  • Analyse the sustainable finance landscape in Japan and internationally
  • Produce research reports, give presentations, and perform social media outreach
  • Engage with the corporate sector, institutional investors, and other actors
  • Execute related administrative tasks

Skills Required
 
You have a background in financial/ESG investment and/or sustainable finance and knowledge of decarbonization trends in public and private sectors, financial institutions, and institutional investors. Your sustainable finance/ESG experience was ideally gained in a think tank, financial services institution, government, or other relevant setting. Additionally, you have:

  • Related research and analysis experience
  • Ability to write both long and short form reports and presentations
  • Capacity to collaborate internationally with research organizations and actors
  • Confidence in presenting to diverse audiences in a variety of settings
  • Native-level Japanese language skills and fluent English
  • Competency with relevant software
