About the Position: The Public Affairs Intern responsibilities include assisting in research and writing for publications, creating social media posts and campaigns, representing Midpen at community events and workshops, drafting and proofreading marketing materials and communications, reviewing and uploading photos to a database and other duties as assigned. Work duties will provide training in a broad range of public affairs strategies and activities. In addition, there is a governmental affairs component as well to assist with intergovernmental meetings and events, legislative analysis and monitoring and legislative correspondences. This position reports to the Public Affairs Specialist leading community outreach and engagement, with additional assignments from other communications project/program leads. The expected start date for this position is mid-January 2023.

Benefits: This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week, which will extend up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-9 month period. This is a non-benefited position.

Basic Requirements: Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in public affairs, communications, public relations, marketing, policy and government, journalism, community relations or a similar field. Experience with social media platforms and tools, event management, website CMS and email marketing platforms are a plus. Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license.

Working Conditions: Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position, and will be divided between at home office work and some outdoor and onsite work. Will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for special events. This position will report to the Public Affairs department at Midpen’s administrative office in Los Altos, California.
