POSITION DESCRIPTION

Baltimore Green Space is currently seeking an exceptional candidate for the role of Program Director to collaborate with internal teams to produce high quality environmental education programs and green space support for volunteers caring for green spaces and/or interested in protecting land in the trust and external partners to facilitate growth. The successful candidate has a wide range of skills, operates as a key leader in the organization and works closely with the Executive Director.

Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Program Director has strategic responsibility for Baltimore Green Space’s execution of preservation and forest programming, including supervision of the Forest Program Manager and Preservation Manager and all of their program deliverables. Directs both managers who provide technical, educational, and outreach support to site leaders, as well as by ensuring the success of BGS workshops and events to increase outreach. Provides strategic support to forest and preserved sites. Monitors annual and scientific reporting for garden and forest data, offers technical assistance, helps build the forest stewardship networks, and leads regular service days. Works with the team in meeting organizational goals to increase neighborhood participation in garden and community forest activities; and builds a network of partners supporting the garden and forest stewardship network.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and project manage Baltimore Green Space’s environmental programs and program staff, which include: special projects, events, data monitoring, and partnerships.     
  • In partnership with the Executive Director, set department strategy, adjust as needed to implement long-range plans, goals, objectives and schedules for each core program that align with agency mission and vision.
  • Oversee, support the maintenance and collection of all site evaluation, site leader and volunteer assistance, event monitoring and attendance records.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers to provide curriculum development support to ensure Baltimore Green Space’s programs align with the organizational mission and industry standards for environmental programming to ensure high quality experiences for our participants and provide observational feedback to managers.
  • With oversight from the Executive Director, coordinate and collaborate with the Program Managers to oversee and administer community partnerships, including (but not limited to): scheduling, creating and carrying out agreements and collaborations, recruiting, developing curriculum, and reviewing equipment and/or supply needs.
  • Responsible for overseeing seasonal program partnerships and opportunities, such as the fellowship program with UMBC and Morgan State.     
  • Work with the Executive Director and Development Director to develop case statements for core programs, complete program reports, and cultivate new opportunities.
  • Create a framework for program recruitment and oversee the program team in implementing a successful recruitment strategy.
  • Manage department and program budgets; provide input on annual department budgets, support program purchases.
  • Represent Baltimore Green Space at community events, partnership meetings, conferences, and recruitment opportunities.

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Update and manage job descriptions for recurring and new program positions.
  • Develop, motivate, and lead a program team; set additional team goals and evaluate performance of team members.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director and Program Managers, hire, and onboard necessary program staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • In collaboration with the Operations Manager, ensure all program staff and volunteers receive orientation and training, and that required paperwork is completed.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Operations Manager to address and mediate HR concerns between program staff as needed.
  • Manage any site leader, client or other partner issues that arise, respond appropriately, and resolve all conflicts in a timely manner with professionalism and tact.
  • Review and submit incident report forms to the Executive Director.

STAFF SUPERVISION

  • Monitor and review work plans and timesheets of all program staff.
  • Facilitate weekly mentor/instructor meetings with direct reports.
  • Collaborate with Program Managers to facilitate weekly program meetings.
  • Meet with programming partners site mentors/program managers to address issues for interns/staff .

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION:

  • Assist the Executive Director in program management functions.
  • Manage all program documents on the organization’s server and archive all critical materials including: liability and registration forms, demographic info, curriculum, photographs, evaluation, and final media products.
  • Process stipend requests for non-salaried program participants.
  • Work with staff to identify Professional Development needs (event management, crisis resolution, anti-racism/anti-oppression trainings, organization strategies, etc.) and implement appropriate.

PROGRAM REPORTING

  • Submit timely and accurate program and evaluation reports to the Operations Manager for grant reporting purposes.
  • Submit bi-monthly program updates with photographs on each program to the ED for the Board Report. 
  • Work with the Executive Director to implement the communications and public relations strategy, and develop methods by which to best communicate the organization’s mission, programs, and achievements to diverse audiences.
  • Attend program events quarterly to build relationships with staff, students and partner sites.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

This full-time exempt salaried position offers a starting compensation package totaling $58,965 – $65,000 annually, depending on education and years of professional experience. QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of progressive experience in environmental programs, program administration, and experience with nonprofit management.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with project management.
  • Thorough understanding of gardening, community gardening, and forest ecology.
  • Value and advocate for protections of green spaces and the environment.
  • Proven effectiveness in managing a team and environmental education programs
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thrives leading collaboratively and executing a shared team vision.
  • Impact minded, with focus on development of creative solutions.
  • Ability to implement efficiencies to improve work processes.
  • Ability to prepare and present reports or recommendations clearly and concisely to the Executive Director.
  • Ability to compile financial and operational data and to analyze charts and reports and statistical and budgetary statements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with organizational partners, community, and business groups.
  • Experience with print and web communication.
  • Experience with grant writing and reporting.
  • Proficient in MS word, Excel, PowerPoint. 
  • Experience with MailChimp (or similar), WordPess, Canva, and Flickr
  • Salesforce experience a plus.
