Internship Natural Water Filtration Assembly Intern
SUMMARY: Los Angeles’ only hand-built pet product (the only one in its category not made in China) is leading the way in U.S. made designs, and we need an intern to learn how to build/craft these small pet products from our office in Santa Monica. Learn by doing, in a super flexible, small office environment with lots of help.
COMPANY: We are a small private business of less than 5 people, and have been in the current business about 10 years, and in the same location 15 years. The owner has been in the Los Angeles area for 25 years.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Being an intern, you don’t have a lot of responsibilities, other than to be reliable each week. Our internships are for those that want to learn; not those who have already learned.
We make and sell an eco friendly ocean-like product to take care of fish (and soon for other pets and gardens too), and ship it around the world, so this is a great chance to see how your crafting skills can help with actual business. Learn cutting, sizing, drilling, gluing with epoxy, urethane and silicone, and maybe even painting or electrical soldering. Also learn how to do final assembly, and quality checks of other people’s work. If you like crafting or sculpting artsy things, you’ll like learning these things. We have several patents and trademarks, and are well known in our line of product, so you’ll be handling real world situations. And you can listen to your own music the whole time if you want.
This learning internship position is one step above our volunteer position, and one step below our job position, however everyone in our tiny office is the same otherwise. If you happen to read and write languages besides English, especially Dutch, Swedish, French, German or Italian, then tell us! Portuguese, Arabic, Farsi, Chinese and Japanese are also welcome. You could help us with translations, or with marketing to those countries. We are also happy to have you if you are already here on a travel visa, work visa, school visa, J1 visa or J2 visa, if you have already moved to the Los Angeles area for this.
We need at least 10 hours a week, but more is available if you want. This can be a few hours each day, or one long Saturday, however fits your schedule the best. Very flexible hours available, between 8am to 7pm, and even Saturday is available. We are in the middle of Santa Monica, walking distance from Santa Monica College, and a short bus ride from UCLA. Bus stops are one block away, and the train station is three blocks.
QUALIFICATIONS: Since this is a learning internship, similar to a vocational school, no qualifications are required.
PAY: Internship learning stipend pay starts at $3/hr, and after 80 hours will go to $5/hr. Full training is provided. Resume’ credit or college credit given too, if needed. There are no beginning and ending dates. Overall you will learn a lot and have a good reference for your job searching later. Can also be unpaid, if you need school credit only.
If you want to apply, include “I like Green Jobs”.
