Full-Time Member Group Liaison

Job Summary:

The Endangered Species Coalition (ESC) is a convener of more than 400 member groups, including conservation, community, humane, science, faith, sporting, and other groups, along with more than 600,000 individuals. We use our decades of expertise to empower, strategically coordinate, and lift up those member groups and voices around the common goal of protecting biodiversity and ensuring its benefits are shared equitably by all communities.  The Member Group Liaison is a critical role in this as the lead liaison to our member groups. 

The Member Group  Liaison (Liaison) will help member groups and allied partners build relationships with each other and act as an advocate on behalf of members of the coalition. The Liaison seeks to empower the coalition to protect biodiversity and the Endangered Species Act (ESA) by growing and diversifying the membership base, developing partnerships, and seeking strategic ways to leverage our coalition to advance the protection of endangered species. The Liaison’s goal is to amplify the strengths of our member groups to have the most effective coalition possible in building an inclusive movement for biodiversity conservation. 


Member Group Engagement

  • Responsible for all levels of national member group engagement efforts for ESC. Lead targeted, member-group-based campaigns and efforts.
  • Communicate regularly with groups that work on endangered species issues, including national, regional, and local conservation groups, Tribal groups, BIPOC-focused outdoor groups, faith groups, outdoor recreation associations, scientific organizations, and community groups. 
  • Ensure that the perspectives of all member groups are heard in the national conversation on imperiled plant and wildlife campaigns and policies.
  • Participate in multiple, regular endangered species-related conference calls and meetings every week. 
  • Research topics, coordinate, schedule, and moderate relevant and diverse bi-weekly ESA grassroots zoom meetings for member groups. 
  • Conceive, plan, and organize meetings and educational events (e.g., fly-ins, congressional and administration meetings, briefings, educational events, award receptions, and more) for the member groups
  • Assist in developing funding streams for member group engagement.

Member Group Communication

  • Responsible for ESCs member group communication both internally and externally.
  • Determine how best to leverage the strengths of ESC member and partner organizations to carry out inclusive communication that reflects a diversity of voices. 
  • Implement and evaluate membership  communication strategies  with the support of ESC staff, as well as staff from other member organizations.
  • Provide a megaphone for endangered species protections and ensure that a diverse set of member groups’ voices are heard on the Endangered Species Act. Use ESC’s and our movement’s communications and social media presence to amplify the diversity of our member groups’ work and to jointly amplify values-based messaging around endangered species. 
  • Encourage member groups and allied partners to participate in unified media campaigns. 
  • Oversee the annual Top 10 report creation and secure member group partners to produce and publish  the report.
  • Strategize and craft additional joint tactics—such as social media and print media days of action—to frame the media narrative and to secure media for our member groups. 
  • Ensure members groups and allied partners send ESC their press releases and to write guest blog posts for the ESC website to further amplify their work.
  • Cultivate groups in states with key decision-makers to partner with ESC to secure media and to  highlight the best stories and viewpoints from the grassroots.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the member groups via one-on-one calls, conference calls, zoom meetings, surveys, etc., as appropriate, to gauge their needs, answer their questions, provide a channel of communication between the districts and the Hill on species policy, empower the grassroots, and inform the strategies of the conservation community on behalf of the member groups. 
  • Ensure that membership group contact information is kept up to date.
  • Assist in developing funding streams for member group communications.

Member Group Cultivation

  • Evaluate member group benefits and analyze member group needs. 
  • Communicate the benefits to current and potential members. 
  • Ensure that member group recruitment reflects the diversity of the country. 
  • Instill a positive culture among the member groups of the coalition—prioritizing a sense of teamwork, mutual support, and adherence to the values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI). 
  • Recruit and onboard new member groups.
  • Develop and implement additional member group benefits as determined necessary.
  • Assess opportunities to strengthen the effectiveness of our coalition. 
  • Advocate and encourage member groups to participate in relevant activities, events and trainings.
  • In collaboration with our field team and other staff, develop relationships with organizations that may not currently be members but may benefit from a relationship/partnership with ESC to amplify issues relevant to both organizations. 
  • Develop Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with groups that can help and will benefit from a partnership with ESC.
  • Assist in developing funding streams for member group cultivation, activities, events and trainings.

Required Experience, Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills


  • 2-7 years in coalition building and/or advocacy campaigning, preferably with experience in wildlife conservation, environmental issues, grassroots, and/or social justice
  • Demonstrated experience leading campaigns, meeting with decision-makers, and/or working with coalitions, activists, and/or volunteers is ideal.
  • A bachelor’s degree in political science, environmental science, or equivalent work or educational experience.


  • Some familiarity with legislative processes, particularly with environmental laws.
  • Awareness of and interest in endangered species and environmental/biodiversity justice.
  • A strong commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Ability to:

  • Work independently on multiple projects and in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships and communicate effectively with people from diverse political and social backgrounds.
  • Work collaboratively with ESC staff and within various coalitions, including the ability to negotiate and/or find common ground in a peaceful manner.
  • Analyze, synthesize, and summarize information for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Write and speak effectively, and communicate openly and honestly.
  • Work remotely, via email, video, and conference calls.

Work Environment

  • This position is remote/work from home.
  • Occasional night and weekend work is required.
  • Travel within the United States is required.
