MAINTENANCE

Oz Farm is seeking a full time, residential or locally based Maintenance person. This position is for someone who either enjoys living communally on the land or who lives locally in close proximity to the farm.

Job Summary

The Maintenance person is responsible for general upkeep,  infrastructure projects, groundskeeping and landscaping, and preventative maintenance on Oz infrastructure and machinery. This position reports to the Director of Operations.

Experience, Qualifications, and Skills

  1. 3-5 years’ experience in maintenance engineering, landscaping or related fields

  2. Under general supervision, ability to perform repairs and preventative maintenance on a wide variety of building and facility equipment, fixtures and systems

  3. Ability to install, trouble-shoot, repair, and maintain a wide variety of plumbing, mechanical, and off-grid electrical systems

  4. Conduct preventative maintenance inspections and perform required preventative maintenance actions such as lubrication, cleaning, filter changes etc.

  5. Valid California driver’s license with clean CA DMV record

  6. Ability to work in a neat and orderly way with good time management, prioritizing, and delegating

  7. Ability to perform carpentry work

  8. Ability to react and respond calmly and graciously in stressful and demanding situations

  9. Strong communication skills, with an emphasis on listening, empathy and common sense

  10. Ability to be self-motivated and self-managing and to work both independently and collaboratively

  11. Excellent record-keeping skills and computer literacy where necessary

  12. Passion for Oz Farm’s mission and work

Primary Responsibilities of the Job

  1. Assist other engineers as needed

  2. Perform basic off-grid electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs

  3. Paint and refinish buildings and furniture

  4. Monitor and perform basic repairs on buildings, hot tub, and Oz infrastructure

  5. Lubricate and change machinery filters and fluids

  6. Mow, weed whip, and chainsaw

  7. Complete guest cabin preventative maintenance programs, including checking furniture and electrical system

  8. Repair furniture, tools, small appliances and other items as needed

  9. Respond to guest needs and emergencies in a timely manner

  10. Maintain shop and maintenance equipment in a clean, neat, and orderly way

  11. Perform repairs on gas fired and electrical appliances and equipment

  12. Perform carpentry work, including but not limited to the repair of doors, decks, and furniture

  13. Perform masonry work, such as plastering, cement, and natural building

  14. Ability to interact with guests in a professional manner

  15. Manage Maintenance Department budget

  16. Coordinate with Retreat and Farm Managers

  17. Participate in weekly Oz Farm staff meetings when appropriate

  18. To be flexible with the tasks required for the business, depending on the needs of Oz Farm, which may include tasks other than those related strictly to Job Descriptioniption

Physical Requirements of the Job

1. Employee must be able to consistently perform physical tasks
2. Drive and operate farm vehicles and small machines
3. Ability to lift up to 60lbs
4. Handle use of tools and machinery safely and responsibly

1.Participate in weekly staff meetings when necessary

3. Participate in cooking rotation if living on-site (2x/ month on average)

Compensation

1. Compensation of this position is commensurate with experience
2. 3 days paid sick leave and up to one month vacation in the slow season.
3. Option for on- Site private cabin with compact kitchen
4. Oz provides bulk staple foods and produce from the farm
5. Staff can participate in Oz Farm courses and events free of charge and use the Oz farm facilities
