What We Can Achieve Together:

• The Marine Fellow is a full-time two-year position in The Nature Conservancy’s (TNC) Hawai‘i Marine Fellowship Program. The program is designed to build well-qualified, experienced marine resource managers who will provide critically needed leadership and capacity for the sustainable management of Hawai‘i’s lands and waters into the future.  Marine Fellows are integral to The Nature Conservancy’s work in Hawaiʻi and throughout the Pacific. Through their work, Marine Fellows will learn a variety of conservation, science, and leadership skills as they conduct on-the-ground conservation work with TNC staff and partners. During the two-year program, the Fellows will assist in the development, implementation, management, monitoring, and coordination of science and community-based marine conservation projects throughout the main Hawaiian Islands.
• The first year of the fellowship program is focused on building basic skills in natural sciences, resource monitoring, community capacity building, public policy, outreach and communications, leadership development, and more. During the second year of the fellowship, Marine Fellows will grow their leadership skills as they take on more responsibilities and participate in strategic planning and project management. Each Fellow will work with mentors and program leadership to develop and complete a final capstone project in a topic area relating to their own professional goals that also advances priority marine conservation work.

What You’ll Bring:

• Associate, technical or vocational degree and 1 year of related experience (in natural resources management or similar field) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in ecological land management principles.
• Demonstrated commitment, dedication, and passion for conserving Hawai‘i’s marine ecosystems.
• Ability to snorkel for at least 3 hours at a time in challenging weather conditions.
• Experience working with communities in Hawai‘i toward resource management goals.

• Desired Qualifications
• BA/BS degree in related field
• Experience working with Hawai‘i’s natural systems, cultural practices, and communities as they relate to land or coastal management or marine conservation.
• Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
• Experience with managing groups or projects to meet or address a coastal or marine related challenge/issue.
• Ability to complete tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
• Working knowledge of common software applications (e.g.; Word, Excel, Web browsers).
• Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English and other relevant languages.

Salary Information:

• The starting pay for this position is within the range of $24.45 – $26.92 per hour (with a 35-hour work week). This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA and county of employment is Honolulu, HI. Where a successful candidate’s pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including location, qualifications, skills, and experience. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
