Job Description

The Climate Action Campaign is looking for a creative and flexible graphic designer (2-5 years of experience) to support our branding and stakeholder communications. With guidance from the Senior Directors of Communications and Planning, you will:

  • Design and develop graphic visuals for plans, presentations, reports, a-newsletters, proposals, email templates, and other collateral materials that keep big picture in mind while telling the visual story
  • Proactively contribute ideas to the team for content development
  • Creatively work to enhance the Campaign’s internal and external branding in conjunction with the digital communications team
  • Provide support to the leadership team though project management support, contributing to the creative process, managing deliverable timelines, and other duties as reasonably assigned
  • Assist the digital communications and planning teams with production of materials including content for web presence

This is an internal design position where approximately 80% of the employee’s time will spent on internal projects with the remaining 20% going toward ad hoc projects largely in conjunction with the Digital Communications Team.

Who You Are

Your visions would help shape the look, feel, and outcomes for CAC programs and campaigns. You are a creative who is able to keep track of multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize work according to changing priorities and campaign needs. A successful candidate for this position is a mission-driven, hardworking, confident individual who has/is:

  • Two to five years of graphic design experience
  • Ability to conceptualize illustrations and information design to completion
  • Experience executing visually engaging digital print and graphic designs
  • Knowledge of creating digital graphics and branded content and collateral materials to support internal projects that span various departments
  • Comfortable collaborating interdepartmentally and with other creative stakeholders and consultants
  • Experience with digital storytelling and rapid content creation
  • Ability to grow and maintain the CAC’s brand and style guide
  • Administer photo selection and file maintenance for graphics
  • In depth understanding of professional web design standards
  • Excellent internal communicator including superior writing and copy-editing skills
  • Ability to work independently, remain flexible, self-motivated and can prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to switch gears at a moment’s notice
  • Creative and full of ideas, and knows that paying impeccable attention to the details is what makes all the difference (with close attention to detail, especially with spelling and grammar)
  • Comfortable sharing ideas, and making suggestions on the spot and soliciting, receiving and implementing feedback
  • Patient, with a positive attitude and a sense of humor
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (with an emphasis on Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign), Canva and other graphic design software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Powerpoint,
  • Proficient in MailChimp, Wix, WordPress or similar website maintenance platforms
  • Comfortable with video and photo editing and publishing
  • Experience designing materials to be used on integrated marketing platforms such as Mail Chimp is a plus
  • Passion for design and promoting progressive issues including environmental issues is a plus but not required

The Process

Successful applicants will receive a phone screen conducted by staff of The Griffin Partnership. The next round of interviews will involve a virtual interview (over Zoom) with members of the Climate Action Campaign Hiring Team. After that interview, finalists will be asked to complete a skills-based exercise. There may be another interview before a successful applicant is chosen. This hiring process is on a fast track and applications may only be accepted for a limited period of time. We hope to have someone start the beginning of July or sooner.

The Fine Print

This is a fulltime position based in Washington, DC, though our teams are currently working from home due to COVID-19.

The target salary range for this position is $50,000 depending on experience. We offer an excellent benefits package which includes 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, and a 401k plan.
