Position

Global Energy Monitor is seeking an experienced Grants Manager to join our Administrative team.  The Grants Manager will work closely with the Executive Director to write and manage grant applications and reports supporting critical energy and environmental research, persuasively communicating GEM’s mission and programs to potential funders.

The Challenge

According to the Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change (IPCC), we have less than a decade to make massive and unprecedented changes in the global economy to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. To meet that challenge, Global Energy Monitor is creating trackers and other tools to provide detailed information on energy facilities, sponsors, and financing.

About Global Energy Monitor

Global Energy Monitor (GEM) is a network of researchers developing information for the worldwide climate and clean energy movement. Since the organization’s founding in 2007, GEM’s research has become an essential tool for activists, journalists, policymakers, and scientists. GEM’s data and reports are used and cited by organizations ranging from Greenpeace to The Wall Street Journal. GEM’s information is used by Bloomberg Terminals, the International Energy Agency, the IPCC, Climate Analytics, Carbon Tracker Initiative, and hundreds of others.

Note: GEM does not have a central office; instead, GEM works with employees to create suitable home offices catered to the needs of their role. Remote staff need not be based in the United States.

Position Summary and Duties

  • Strategy. Together with the Executive Director, maintain a written strategic plan for the organization’s funding.
  • Writing. Write and compile timely narrative and financial grant proposals and reports.
  • Research. Conduct online research to identify new funding opportunities aligned with GEM’s mission.
  • Administration. Track proposal activity, maintain records, and generate reports as required.
  • Compliance. Provide oversight with compliance requirements of grant applications.
  • Budgeting. Work with the program directors  and the Executive Director to prepare project budgets.
  • Exploration. Together with the Executive Director, identifying potential new sources of funding.
  • Funder Relations. Foster relationships with existing funders as well as identifying new funding opportunities.
  • Coordination. Prepare for and coordinate meetings with funders or potential funders.
  • Reporting. Track progress on grant deliverables and outcomes and manage both narrative and statistical grant reports.

Education & Experience

Applicants who tailor their resume and cover letter to these requirements will be prioritized.

The following experience and skills are required for this position:

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years related work experience in fundraising/development/grant management.

The following experience and skills are desired for this position:

  • Experience working with grants of $50,000 and above.
  • Proven proficiency in writing grant proposals and reports.
  • Non-profit fundraising experience.
  • Commitment to social and environmental justice.
  • Proven track record with international fundraising, grants management, and administration including familiarity with Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce, Bloomerang or similar CRM software.
  • Professional writing, editing, and copy editing skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite tools.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet analysis.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent presentation development skills.
  • Resourcefulness in using online search tools.
  • Working knowledge of the following areas: climate change, energy resource extraction, and power generation, and the environmental and social impacts of fossil energy development.

Pay and Benefits

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, work-from-home position. The salary range is $83,000 – $93,000 for locations in the United States. Salary and benefits differ for those based outside of the US and may be discussed on an individual basis.
