POSITION SUMMARY

The Climate Reality Project is seeking a Global Campaigns Director to manage three global campaigns as well as our U.S. petrochemical and Inflation Reduction Act implementation campaigns. Climate Reality’s new focus on emissions reductions and climate finance will help us reach our goal of holding global warming to 1.5⁰ C increase above pre-industrial levels, which involves achieving emissions reductions on the order of 45-50% of 2005 total emissions by 2030. Climate Reality is seeking to build capacity of its 11 international branches to implement these campaigns in their regions to avert the worst outcomes of the climate crisis.

The Global Campaigns Director will lead these campaigns, while collaborating with senior leaders in the other departments, to help develop campaign strategies and activities that leverage the organization’s unique assets through training, leadership development, storytelling, digital content production, research, and communications capacity. This Global Campaigns Director position will also ensure that The Climate Reality Project is partnering with a range of climate and climate justice and environmental justice groups so that the organization’s advocacy efforts are aligned and integrated with its partners.

Strong candidates for this role will have a sharp understanding of the U.S. and international efforts to aggressively address the climate crisis, a proven ability to lead and drive campaigns forward despite complex obstacles, a complete understanding of strategic development and opportunities and the tactics that can achieve those strategic goals, along with a proven record of leading a team, and successfully executing large projects.

This is a hybrid position, currently expected to work from The Climate Reality Office in downtown Washington DC at least two days per week.  The current salary for this position is $130,440/year.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overseeing the global emissions reductions campaign
  • Overseeing the global climate finance campaign
  • Ensuring the anti-greenwashing campaign is integrated into the emissions reductions and global finance campaigns.
  • Supporting the annual COP campaign and leveraging the opportunity to tie our campaign work to the calls to action at COP.
  • Ensuring that climate justice and environmental justice priorities and youth engagement actions are woven throughout the campaigns.
  • Developing an organizing team model and cross departmental team infrastructure to grow capacity across Climate Reality’s branches and US chapters.
  • Supporting the management and development of the Campaigns team staff in order for them to excel, succeed, and reach the organization.
  • Lead the Campaign Managers in writing annual work plans to implement two to three global campaigns.
  • Provide day-to-day management of the Campaigns Managers and broader team to develop clear work plans and support the team in executing them effectively across the branches.
  • Develop, implement, and cultivate an organizing team model to grow capacity and expand campaign production and effectiveness.
  • Propel campaigns forward by providing clear communication, strategic guidance, tracking performance, and identifying opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Climate Reality’s other departments to ensure campaigns are integrated across the organization and that resources are leveraged to support one another.
  • Play a supporting role in Climate Reality’s training program to ensure newly trained Leaders are integrated into our growing advocacy campaigns.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 10 years of professional experience with campaigns, ideally with significant experience on issue advocacy campaigns
  • International campaign experience is strongly preferred.
  • Creative, strategic, and a self-starter with an ability to identify and plan campaigns, and implement them on a week-to-week basis.
  • Significant understanding of organizing principles and structure to steadily build power and capacity over the long term.
  • Proven leadership and managerial skills, with experience directing and supporting a diverse team to be impactful.
  • A deep commitment to climate action and climate justice
  • Detail oriented, with the ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced campaign setting often dealing with rapid-response and high-pressure situations.
  • A positive and proactive approach to day-to-day work and with staff interactions that emphasizes solutions to overcome challenges and obstacles.
  • Team player with an ability to do what is needed to achieve organization and team goals.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree—or equivalent experience
  • Organizing and/or campaign experience, grant writing and administration and management experience.
  • Research, strategy, policy, program management and development experience.
