Position Announcement

Position Summary

The Finance and Grants Manager will manage the finances of the organization, manage financial reporting for grants, create financial reports, and assist in treasury management activities. This is a new role at USDN as we enter a period of maturation of our operational and finance systems. This role will assist in the development of new systems and processes and evolve and improve current processes. 

The work completed in this role will be highly collaborative – the Finance and Grants Manager will work with staff across the organization on various initiatives, projects, and processes. This role will work closely with the Development Team and other Operations team members, including our Business Analyst, People Operations Director, and Technology Director, and will report to our Director of Finance, People, & Culture. 

Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Prepare financial statements, budget reports, and forecasts. Support leadership of the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Director of Finance, People, & Culture
  • Work with contractors who are responsible for financial reporting, budgeting, or bookkeeping. 
  • Manage the completion of vendor registrations, annual reports and tax, and corporate filings. 
  • Provide information, training, and support to staff on their financial functions. 

Accounting Management

  • Assist accounting functions including accounts and grants payable, accounts and grants receivable, and payroll accounting, among others 
  • Manage the organization’s general ledger and subledgers, including reviewing and posting journal entries, and ensuring completion of and reviewing monthly reconciliations of accounts.
  • Create and maintain a series of financial controls and procedures for the organization.
  • Coordinate with the organization’s Independent Auditor and assist in the completion of the annual audit process and IRS Form 990. 
  • Work closely with People Operations Director and HR compliance vendors to manage state tax and registration matters. 

Grants Management

  • Support funding proposals by assisting with budgets, budget narratives, reviewing proposals, and providing supporting documents.
  • Ensure complete documentation of funding awards. 
  • Work with program staff to comply with funder’s restrictions and requirements, monitor spending, request amendments, and plan spend-out.
  • Work closely with the Development Director to produce grant reports; including financial reports and other necessary documentation.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff of USDN and fiscally sponsored projects to help them proactively manage grants and grant reporting.

Position Requirements

  • Awareness of non-profit accounting standards, fund accounting, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Deep understanding of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles and demonstrable commitment to equity in personal and professional settings.
  • Cultural agility, and a commitment to cultivate and maintain awareness of equity skills and competencies and their application to operational responsibilities.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in similar job functions, preferably in a nonprofit organization or member-driven organization.  Experience with Federal Grants is preferred.
  • Ability to create and manage budgets.
  • Proficient in general office software and applications, as well as budget creation and analysis software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of budgetary and accounting principles, practices, and policies.

Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to USDN’s Director of Finance, People, & Culture. The compensation range for this position is expected to be between $75,000 – $80,000 annually. USDN offers a robust benefits package, including 100% employer covered health, dental, disability, and life insurance, flexible leave policy, generous paid leave, and 401(k) program. 

Location: This is a fully remote, work-from-home position. USDN has no central office but staff collaborate extensively via video call meetings and through periodic in-peron convenings. The candidates must furnish their own quiet office space for conference calls. USDN provides an IT stipend to cover internet and phone use, computer, software, and other home office supplies. Work hours: 9am-5pm Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific Standard Times (flexible); 40 hours/week.
