Full-Time Farm Manager
Job Description
CURRENTLY SEEKING A FARM MANAGER TO JOIN THE RMV FAMILY!!
Red Maple Vineyard is a farm-to-table venue, vineyard, brewery, and winery in the Mid-Hudson valley. We specialize in weddings and grow seasonal produce for our events & community whenever possible. We are currently seeking a farm manager to join the team. Most of the systems for our farm are in place & we have a great crew.
Overview of Responsibilities :
Management of 2 acres organic veggie farm
Overseeing seedling, planting, maintenance, spray & feeding schedules (organic), crop rotation, seed ordering, cover crops, etc.
Management of 5 acres of vineyard
Overseeing spray, feeding, & pruning schedule
Development & management of 1/4 acre of Hops
This is a new project. The fields will be prepared & planting will take place in the spring
Management of animals
Overseeing the care of 80 chickens, 2 pigs, and 2 horses
Integration of farm with other aspects of RMV including, communication with the kitchen, event planner, and marketing director with regards to seasonal produce & farm updates
Key requirements:
- Supervision and management of farm crew – we have a great group of seasonal guys that have been working with us for years
- Insect & weed control, soil fertility monitoring, and general field observation
- Passion and knowledge of regenerative farming – continue to build and maintain soil, including compost
- Maintaining a high standard of production to ensure high quality produce and aesthetics
- Annual field plans
- Seed ordering and material acquisition
- Irrigation system maintenance & management
- Comfortable driving tractor & skid steer
- Donating extra produce to local food pantries
- General curiosity & desire to try new things / take on new projects / think outside the box
- Ability to speak Spanish or willingness to learn
- Responsibly manage administrative and record keeping tasks related to running the farm business and overall success of the organization
Qualifications:
- Minimum two years experience of full-season management
- Demonstrated farm planning experience
- Experience in growing using organic/biodynamic principles
- Experience working with farm machinery
- Experience working in a team environment with proven leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
Demonstrated good organizational and record keeping skills - Demonstrated good interpersonal & communication skills
- Current drivers license and clean driving record.
Salary will be based on experience. Starting wage 45k-52k per year. Seasonal produce & leftover wedding food will be available for personal consumption. We are interested in retaining the right individual for a long-term commitment. There’s lots of room for growth for the right person. This job can be adjusted to be seasonal.
