About Tippet Rise Art Center
Tippet Rise Art Center is located in Fishtail, Montana, against the backdrop of the Beartooth Mountains, roughly midway between Billings and Bozeman and north of Yellowstone National Park. Set on a 12,500-acre working sheep and cattle ranch, Tippet Rise hosts classical chamber music and recitals and exhibits large- scale, outdoor sculptures. Through our programming and experiences we create, Tippet Rise seeks to connect visitors more deeply with the natural world and with our fellow humans.
Open Position: Facilities Operator
The Facilities Operator is an essential member of the Tippet Rise Team, creating an environment for internationally renowned art, music, recreation and guest experiences. The job is performed both indoors in architecturally significant buildings with state of the art mechanical systems that focus on renewable and LEED based approaches and outdoors in a stunning natural landscape looking out onto the Beartooth Mountains and Wilderness. The facilities operator position is both hands on, physically maintaining mechanical systems and structures and mentally stimulating requiring problem solving, project management, organization skills working both in a team environment and independently. The Facilities Operator may be required to respond to facilities emergencies outside of normal working hours. The Facilities Operator will coordinate and work with outside contractors, vendors, as required. The Facilities Operator will also ensure that the operations are run in accordance with all laws and regulations. Most importantly, the Facilities Operator will be a team player and will be willing to collaborate, pitch in, and adapt with Tippet Rise Art Center.
Duties and Responsibilities
Infrastructure
- Responsible for daily/weekly walkthroughs of all buildings and mechanical systems
- Operate and maintain the following systems:
- HVAC and Geothermal heating and cooling systems using Alerton controls and Compass computer interface
- Air handlers
- Humidifiers
- ClimaCool heat pump system
- Security systems and CCTV (when requested by Security Manager)
- Graywater system and filtration
- Domestic Public Water Supply and chlorination system
- Photovoltaic energy system
- Underground Storage Tanks
- Diesel Powered backup generators
- Universal Power Supply System
- Septic systems
- Fire suppression systems
- Other similar systems that might be added or related to current systems
- Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing and IT network problems
- Assist other maintenance staff and with maintaining interior and exterior of all buildings including paint, gutters, carpentry and structures when requested
- Assist other maintenance staff with maintenance of vehicle fleet as needed
- Key Access Administrator, responsible for securing, distributing and logging hard key and key cards in accordance with access protocols as requested by Security Manager
- Obtain and Maintain DEQ UST operator certification
- Obtain and Maintain DEQ Water Operator certification
Landscaping and Grounds
- Responsible for operating and maintain the irrigation system
- Assist other maintenance staff with mowing, trimming, plant and tree care, as needed
- Maintain hardscapes, assist other maintenance staff with snow and ice removal including shoveling, snow plowing, snow blowing, ice removal and salting
- Replace light bulbs interior and exterior
Project Management
- Coordinate with various contractors for service and maintenance of systems, including verifying the status of projects and follow up if additional work is required
- Create and maintain a detailed log of maintenance and operations for all systems
- File any required documentation with appropriate entities, such as the DEQ, on a timely basis
- Manage and participate in construction projects, as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience such as operating, maintaining, or working with building mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and water
- Experience working with IT networks
- Comfortable with network-based facility and mechanical interface systems
- Strong working knowledge of computer software programs
- Highly organized and detail oriented with the ability to consistently meet deadlines
- Degree or certification in relevant field including facilities management program or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering, or related experience
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Works both in an office environment and outdoors
- Frequently sits for long periods of time
- Frequently speaks, reads, writes and uses a computer keyboard
- Frequently walks and works outside in a variety of weather conditions
- May require standing, lifting, stooping, or bending
- Requires walking or cycling for miles at a time through mountainous terrain
Employment Details
Work hours are generally Monday through Friday 40 hours a week with the ability to be flexible with the needs of the art center including occasional work hours on the weekend during the concert season. This position is based on-site at the Tippet Rise Art Center. Tippet Rise provides wonderful benefits including health and dental insurance, 401K, paid time off and other paid and unpaid leave. Wage from $33.65 to $39.40 per hour.
