Job Description

Summary

The Senior Manager of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Strategy and Reporting will be accountable for the execution and tracking of the overall ESG strategy and roadmap, ensure ESG materiality and risk assessments are conducted and kept up to date, gather ESG related metrics from different stakeholders and provide guidance and leadership for ESG related reporting and topics.

Responsibilities

Program management

  • Establish process and framework for monthly reporting of ESG metrics
  • Working in conjunction with Internal Audit, ensure that the data contributing
    to ESG metrics (e.g. consumption data) is complete, accurate and verifiable.
  • Track ESG metrics and analyze progress towards targets
  • Working collaboratively with multiple key internal stakeholders in charge of different parts of the ESG strategy across the company (HR, Legal, Highway Operations, Health and Safety, Environment, Construction, Finance, Technology) develop and track annual plans for overall ESG strategy
  • Prepare agenda and coordinate ESG Committee meetings
  • Prepare presentations for Senior Management and the Board on ESG roadmap and progress
  • Primary liaison for ESG related requests and inquiries with shareholders, investors and ESG consultants
  • Propose and potentially lead innovative ESG projects
  • Prepare educational presentations to the company on ESG related topics

Sustainability and Finance reporting

  • Own the overall contents of the Sustainability / ESG report and work with the report section owners to gather, review, stakeholder and approve the information prior to its release.     
  • Manage the process to ensure identification and implementation of applicable sustainability reporting standards issued by regulatory or standard setting authorities.
  • Regularly conduct ESG materiality assessment, risk assessments and benchmark analysis
  • Identify and manage the requirements to disclose sustainability-related financial information
  • Work with the Finance team to ensure sustainability- related financial information such as sustainability-related risks and opportunities that could result in future inflows and outflows that have not yet met the criteria for recognition in the related financial statements, are properly captured, assessed and actioned in a timely manner and disclosed as appropriate.
  • Identify, prepare and review disclosure material information about all of the significant sustainability-related risks and opportunities to which it is exposed.
  • Jointly work with the Finance and Legal team to ensure complete and accurate disclosure of Sustainability topics in public filings.

Position Requirements

  • Undergraduate or Master’s degree in sustainability, engineering, business, environmental studies, Finance or another related program
  • At least five years of work experience in sustainability / ESG-related fields, including experience developing sustainability programs and strategy and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of industry reporting frameworks such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), SASB, TCFD, and CDP and ISSB.
  • Proven working experience in project management
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multitasking skills
  • Experience in matrixed or collaborative work teams with proven success of leading a cross-functional team.
  • Experience with establishing and reporting performance metrics.
  • Understanding of sustainable finance, climate modelling/scenario analysis
  • IT literacy with sound knowledge and experience of Excel/Word/PowerPoint (data analytics and visualization skills are considered a differentiator)
  • Ability to combine both quantitative and qualitative analysis to solve sustainability-related business problems
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver commitments on time
  • Strong project management techniques, including decision-making ability, analytical skills, time management, organization, and evaluative skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • An ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals both internally and externally
  • Experience in a private equity or asset management fund is an asset
