About the role and the team

Due to growth in global CCS initiatives in core economic markets, we are looking for an Energy Modeler to join us on a full-time basis. This role is available in Australia or England.

As an Energy Economist, you will be operating on a global level. You will be part of a cross-disciplinary team of experts and collaborating on Member and Client projects. You will have a particular focus on decarbonising our economy and achieving net zero targets by leveraging your technical knowledge on energy systems and mathematical models or advanced modelling techniques.

What you will do and your impact

  •  Identifying and assessing economic problems, benefits, and costs,
  • Conducting robust analysis to evaluate the role that CCS plays in long-term decarbonisation using our in-house Global Economic Net Zero Optimization (GENZO) model,
  • Further developing the GENZO model, written in GAMS and based on the OSeMOSYS modelling framework; collecting data, characterising technologies, , writing GAMS code, writing Python code to process and visualize GENZO results,
  • Evaluating the economic impacts of proposed CCS hubs within countries and regions by developing economic multipliers from input-output tables, and
  • Preparing technical reports and communications materials for internal stakeholders.

About you

To be successful in this role you will need to work well in a team or autonomously and be engaging, confident and flexible in your working style. You will have strong attention to detail, analytical & research skills and a natural alignment with our company Values; integrity, quality and collaboration.

The ideal candidate will have the following background:

  • Previous experience in a similar role or Energy Economics, consulting or academic background.
  • Hands-on experience in Energy Modelling or possess detailed understanding of energy models, ideally Mathematical Optimization Modelling or Partial Equilibrium Modelling; experience with Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) or econometric modelling may be helpful but are of secondary importance to the role.
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing
  • Strong working knowledge of energy systems and technological pathways to decarbonisation.
  • Experience with mathematical modelling languages, such GAMS highly desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in Python scripting for data visualization highly desirable but not essential.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a related field, such as Economics, Operations Research or Engineering.
