This role evaluates and addresses the global transition towards decarbonization. Working as part of a regional team, and with diverse stakeholder groups across the region, and representing the organisation, including to the media, your responsibilities will be to research and publish reports and commentaries on Japan’s energy sectors with a focus on LNG and proposed alternative energy sources. In this role you will also:

  • Analyse Japan’s energy sector from economic, financial, and technological perspectives
  • Review Japan government’s energy-related policies to understand potential outcomes
  • Assess Japan’s financial support for energy sectors and transitions in other Asian countries
  • Conduct financial analysis, financial modelling, and market analysis
  • Build industry, government, regulatory, and financial contacts to understand different perspectives

Skills Required
 
IEEFA is seeking an experienced financial professional with knowledge of, and interest in, the Japanese energy investment sector. The ideal candidate will be committed to IEEFA’s mission and will possess relevant qualifications and experience gained in a finance institution or think tank. Previously you will have covered, analysed, or supported major Japanese publicly listed companies, through investment banking or equities market analyses in relation to the energy sector. An understanding of the Japanese energy economics and a variety of energy technologies is strongly preferred. Other qualifications sought include:

  • Relevant experience in finance, market analysis, and/or energy fields plus LNG/energy sector
  • Experience analysing financial reporting, equities, and investment portfolios
  • Competence in presenting insights on companies’ financial performance
  • Expert understanding of finance, economics, and quantitative analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and competency in reporting in English
  • High degree of technological proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and relevant software
