Job Description

Lead the team that operates one of the nation’s best rural recycling programs! We recycle 28 day-to-day materials and 33 “hard-to-recycle” items out of our facility in the northwoods on the sunset shore of Lake Michigan. Over 80% of our county’s households use our recycling program and we process materials for four counties. We also operate a solid waste transfer station, encourage food waste reduction, and compost yard and food wastes.

This person–the Department of Public Works Superintendent–ensures that our Pleasantview Road Drop-off Center, remote recycling drop sites, and collection routes run safely and efficiently, and otherwise furthers the recycling, composting, and waste reduction goals of the county.

Position requires experience managing people and operating and maintaining heavy equipment, as well as a CDL, or ability to obtain one. For full job description visit and look under the Human Resources Department. Solid salary and excellent benefits. Emmet County is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
