Director of Operations for the Climate Action Campaign

The Climate Action Campaign (CAC) has an immediate opening for a Director of Operations to run the day-to-day internal functions of its multi-dimensional operation.  As a member of the Senior Leadership Team the Director of Operations reports to the Campaign Director and oversees the finance and operational functions that underpin the Campaign’s activity. This key role manages the Campaign’s budgeting process and overall resource allocation, employee engagement, legal compliance, information systems, and helps ensure cross-department collaboration through integrated systems to ensure the overall success of the Campaign. The ideal candidate must be an excellent leader who is passionate about their work and will continuously strive to improve the Campaign’s efficiency, effectiveness, and teamwork.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the organization’s day-to-day functions
  • Lead and facilitate the annual budget planning process and implementation of the annual budget
  • Review financial information and adjust operational budgets as needed
  • Provide accurate and timely financial reports, forecasts, presentations, and recommendations to the Campaign Director and other stakeholders
  • Manage operational expenditures and direct decision-making processes concerning spending requests
  • Lead, manage, and supervise the Operations Team
  • Serve as the Campaign’s primary liaison to various stakeholders, contractors, and vendors
  • Facilitate strong organizational compliance and governance
  • Maintain efficient and secure IT systems
  • Act as the campaign’s point of contact for all HR, personnel, and performance issue management
  • Lead staff engagement, development, and overall team building
  • Facilitate legal compliance for the campaign, including training for new and existing staff
  • Maintain physical office space and key aspects of remote and hybrid offices
  • Work to establish, refine, and implement process systems to improve efficiency
  • Oversee the recruiting, interviewing, hiring, on-boarding, performance management, succession planning, and off-boarding processes, ensuring alignment with legal requirements, organizational priorities, and best practices for retaining high performing employees
  • Oversee all aspects of employee engagement and satisfaction
  • Ensure there are systems and vendors in place to support operational and department programmatic needs

Who You Are

A successful candidate for this position is a mission-driven, hardworking, manager who is/has:

  • At least 8-10 years of leadership experience in political campaigns or advocacy organizations
  • Track record of successfully managing organizational budgets and forecasting
  • A flexible, positive can-do attitude that is ready to adapt to shifting priorities
  • Strong ethical standards, tact, and diplomacy skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing staff
  • Extraordinary problem-solver with an ability to assess needs and look around corners
  • Comfortable with technology and software applications
  • Exceptional attention to detail, highly organized, and analytical
  • Rapid response oriented with a demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced campaign environment
  • Ability to think creatively, lead projects, meet multiple concurrent deadlines, organize time, and evaluate priorities
  • A “lean-in” type who is enthusiastic about their work and is ready to run with projects from start to finish and pitch in to solve problems and fill holes where needed
  • Familiarity with the environmental movement preferred, but not required

The Fine Print

CAC staff are currently fully remote. However, once it is safe to do so, CAC staff will continue to work remotely and will be asked to come to our DC office for at least 1-2 in-person meetings per quarter depending on department. Staff will work East Coast hours regardless of their location.

The Director of Operations reports to the Climate Action Campaign’s Campaign Director.

The target salary for this position is $120,000 depending on experience. We offer an excellent benefits package that includes 100% employer paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, generous paid time off, and a 401k plan.
