The Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Finance & Operations will ensure strategic financial management of the organization, overseeing OCI’s budget, finances, and daily operations for a remote and global team. Currently operating with a $7.5MM budget with growth expected to reach $10MM within the next two years, the Director will play a hands-on role ensuring OCI has the financial strategy and operational systems to achieve its mission. This position will be responsible for leading multi-year budgeting and forecasting, implementing finance and operations policies and procedures, ensuring fiscal and legal compliance, and executing administrative needs. As part of the Senior Leadership Team, this position will also participate in the development and implementation of organizational vision and strategy.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Finance

  • Develop and oversee the annual organizational budget in collaboration with the Executive Director and with input from the Senior Leadership Team and program leads.
  • Work with the Executive Director, Development Director, and Board Finance Committee to forecast organizational budgets and finance for future planning and growth.
  • Work closely with the Accounting Associate to ensure the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports and ensure timely and accurate account management and payroll processing.
  • Monitor cash flow and reserves to ensure effective cash management and long-term financial health.
  • Prepare budgets and financial reports for funders; ensure expenses meet grant requirements and are allocated to accurate funding sources.
  • Oversee external accountants to balance books monthly and complete workers compensation audits.
  • Oversee the organization’s annual audit and 990 processes in partnership with appropriate vendors.
  • Manage the organization’s small grants program (Movement Support Fund).

Operations & Administration

  • Serve as the primary interface with vendors, including landlords, accountants, bankers, auditors, corporate insurance agents, and other contractors.
  • Oversee organizational contracts in compliance with US and international law and maintain appropriate insurance policies for OCI, OCUSA, and OCUK.
  • Ensure OCI is compliant with all federal/national, state, and local requirements, and has completed appropriate registrations with each locality.
  • With the Security Team, ensure implementation of adequate security measures.
  • Manage and develop the Accounting Associate and Operations Associate, supporting team members to work together toward OCI’s shared mission; align team resources with organizational priorities.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to direct reports, ensuring all staff members have the resources they need to succeed, and access professional development opportunities.

Candidate Profile

While we are open to considering many different professional backgrounds and recognize that no one individual will possess every qualification outlined, the successful candidate will bring many of the following professional qualifications and personal attributes to this role:

  • At least 10 years of professional experience, with demonstrated success leading the finance function in a growing nonprofit; experience in an advocacy organization is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience providing strategic financial management and long-term planning as well as overseeing daily finance and operations functions.
  • Proven ability to set strategy and lead the implementation of new systems and processes to ensure adoption and effectiveness, leveraging exceptional organizational, project, and time management skills.
  • Strong staff management experience, with an orientation towards team building, coaching, and professional development.
  • Experience working in a global context with a grant funded organization.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and external contractors/vendors.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this position is between $115,000-125,000.

Oil Change International offers a generous benefits package, including employer-supported health and wellness benefits. We have adopted policies of flexible working arrangements and every other Friday off. We offer 5 weeks of paid vacation, 10 paid sick days, and appropriate local/regional/religious holidays. We provide cell phone and internet reimbursements and support in setting up a home office. We encourage and offer funds for professional development and provide a paid 12-week sabbatical after 7 years of employment. We also provide regular full-time employees a minimum 12 weeks of paid new parent leave for the care of a newborn, adoption of a child, or foster care placement.
