High Seas Alliance – Posted by High Seas Alliance Anywhere

Job Description

Since its founding in 2011, the High Seas Alliance (HSA) with its 45+ non-governmental members and the International Union for Conservation of Nature, has been working to conserve marine biodiversity on the high seas. Covering nearly half of the world’s surface, the high seas—a true global commons—is only protected by a loose patchwork of poorly enforced rules that are ill-suited to address a growing onslaught of pressures to the water column and seabed below, including climate change, pollution, fishing, and emerging activities like deep-sea mining.

The High Seas Alliance is looking for a Director to lead the coalition as it works to seize a once-in-a-generation opportunity to protect the ocean and its vibrant marine ecology through the finalisation, subsequent ratification and implementation of a UN High Seas Treaty. The new Director will need to foster and lead a collaborative process with HSA’s 45+ members to set the vision and future strategy for HSA, both in terms of what HSA should achieve in coming years, and how its membership could evolve.

This is a one-year position (to end 2023) with likely potential for extension. It is a remote role, with preference for someone based in Europe or the east coast of the Americas.  If in the US, an employment contract is possible, otherwise we are offering a consultants contract. We would also be open to considering a secondment arrangement.

How to Apply

  • The deadline for submissions is December 4, 2022.
