Job Description

About B Lab
B Lab Global is a nonprofit that serves a global movement of people using business as a force for good. B Lab’s vision is of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet. To date, there are over 5,000 Certified B Corps in 150 industries and 70 countries, and over 200,000 companies use the B Impact Assessment.

About the Two Opportunities
The Strategic Growth (SG) team is charged with raising mission-aligned funding to support B Lab Global (BLG) and, where appropriate and aligned, the work of Global Partners as well. In a time of rapid growth for the B Corp movement, the Strategic Growth team is implementing a multi-year, multimillion dollar fundraising strategy designed to accelerate our fundraising efforts and grow our philanthropic pipeline. Of BLG’s total budget, the SG team currently raises about $5 million annually. We expect this will need to grow to closer to $10million/year, and quickly.
B Lab’s primary sources of funding have come from foundations and individuals closely aligned with B Lab’s mission. We expect this trend to continue, and will prioritize securing unrestricted and loosely restricted multi-year funding wherever possible.

This is a critical position for B Lab as we strive to ‘meet the moment’—something we cannot do without significant increases in philanthropic funding. The Development Officer, Major Gifts is a key new role on the Strategic Growth team. This person will help us grow philanthropic partnerships with individuals and family foundations by building on the strength of our existing relationships and networks, as well as our well-known brand.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced fundraiser and internally motivated individual who is excited to work in a rapidly growing organization. We are looking for someone who has experience in fundraising and has the attention to detail and ability to multitask that this requires. We are also looking for a creative and solution-oriented individual who is comfortable and confident in managing up, down and across to ensure their portfolio is advancing – and who can establish themselves as an internal expert and advisor on the funders in their portfolio. This is a great opportunity for someone excited to help our movement grow—and to grow their career right along with us!

The Development Officer, Institutional Giving will be responsible for building a pipeline of prospective funders, supporting the Senior Development Officer on proposal and report writing, and developing and executing individualized engagement strategies for the funders within their managed portfolio. They will support the Senior Development Officer in leading on BLG’s institutional giving strategy and will be instrumental in hitting the Strategic Growth team’s overall fundraising goals. The DO will lead on some relationships and provide support on others. This includes funder research, preparation for meetings and pitches, and grant writing and reporting. In addition to the rest of the SG team, the DO will work closely with various program teams and the finance team to prepare proposals and reports.
