Almma Health – Posted by AlmmaHealth Anywhere

Job Description

Data Science Intern at Almma Health!

North Star: Solve our user’s problems with data and AI!

What would Almma Health’s Data Science Intern do in the first 30 days?

This is the first data hire for the company and will help set the tone of the organization going forward. These are the general areas of your work, depending on your background and what we learn from users (every day in a startup is different):

Dig into the Data and Processes:
Research available data sources that will help us solve our users’ problems and build a personalized product.
Determine what standards are available for measuring environmental impact:
Outline options
Recommend processes and sources
Draft impact measurement statement
Define data processes, schema and governance.
Outline privacy, ownership, and data principles.
Investigate competitor and industry data sources and processes.
Draft data explainability and transparency practices.

Build and Test:
Build a model to calculate specific impacts and test the efficacy on various use cases.
Build a model for content personalization, deploy it to channels and tweak based on findings.
Test various computer vision and NLP solutions on specific content types and recommend a go-forward plan.

Research Big Ideas and How to Solve Them:
How do we develop personalized models that are continuously learning through federated learning?
Research big market trends—what is happening in health personalization and personal environmental impact? Update team monthly on trends.
Research all the new wearable and mobile health data sources. How do we integrate and what value will they add?
Build a recommendation on data sources we should integrate.

By the first month, you’ll have a good idea of the user problems we are trying to solve and where data can help. You will work closely with Ashley on defining the outcomes we want to drive with ML and how to approach finding solutions.

About Us

Almma Health is empowering women to make healthier choices for themselves and the environment. We do this by encouraging women on their personal holistic health journeys through knowledge, support and a caring community while healing our relationship with the environment.

We are an EcoFemTech startup founded by two women who are passionate about women and the environment. We are creating a product that solves problems for our users and for our globe. It is an adventure worth taking and a problem we must solve.
Our Values
Soul
The soul, the principle of life, feeling, thought and action. Almma means “soul” in spanish. This is our core value, because it’s our vital force, our sense of purpose and our essence. We are passionate and strong yet caring to one another and to ourselves.
We want everyone working at Almma to resonate with this spark within them, knowing that we are giving back something good to the world and therefore, ourselves.

Translucent
Translucent is a characteristic in living beings that permits the passage of light. In Almma, we openly share and learn from each other’s work and mistakes. From ourselves to our users, all of our processes, dynamics, interactions and structures are see-through.

Wonder
To wonder is to feel amazement and admiration by something beautiful, remarkable, or unfamiliar. In Almma, this wonder for life makes us curious: always exploring, investigating, learning, building knowledge, questioning the norms.
We study with rigour and a sense of wonder everything that surrounds us, so we can create new futures together. This means looking at data, talking constantly to our end users, and diving deep into the problems we are solving.

Biodiverse
Biodiversity is the biological variety and variability of life on Earth. This abundance of diversity is what makes life thrive.
In Almma, we are all very different, and therefore strong. Each component is unique for our mutual growth and beauty as a whole. We are interconnected with ourselves and our environment. We know that being diverse and equal means creating a better product and value for our users.

Regenerative
We are a regenerative community that grows through humility, sustainability and justice. We work together and support each other even when we may have different opinions. We encourage honesty, taking risks and learning for our mistakes which helps us continue to grow and improve. We approach our setbacks as an opportunity to positively adjust and move into the future.

Our Founders
As part of the team, you will work side-by-side with our two founders, Ashley and Juanita, who are supported by a strong team of advisors. From day one, you will be a part of the close knit community of Almma.

Ashley Duque Kienzle is an expert in the application of AI in Behavior Change. She has built and led teams at Accenture, Capital One, Facebook, Amazon, Babylon Health, and Changing Health where she’s helped define and scale digital innovations across the globe. Ashley holds a degree in Behavioral Biology and Masters in Communication focused on Behavior Change from Johns Hopkins University. Https://www.linkedin.com/in/ashleyduquekienzle

Juanita Pardo Garcia is a UX designer with a Master’s degree in Design for Emergent Futures. She is experienced in synthesising innovative business strategies into digitally transformative products. Juanita is curious about design strategies that challenge us as a society and push thinking toward building circular models that support fair and sustainable systems. https://www.linkedin.com/in/juanita-pardo-garc%C3%ADa-305a62ba/

Our Benefits
Our people are what keep the company going and thriving. No matter what your role, we are committed to your growth and learning. Although we are a startup and can’t afford all the shiny objects, we can put you and your holistic health at the center of our company. We offer:
Wednesday no meeting day
1 hour blocked a day for lunch or dinner (depending on your working hours) and a walk and/or siesta (what you prefer) without meetings or disruptions
Every last Friday of the month off for “adulting” or just catching up on sleep or whatever else you need
December 23 – January 2 off for the whole company
Flexible work hours (just need 2 hours overlapping a day)
Local holidays plus International Women’s Day and Earth Day
Bi-annual house plant budget (if you are anything like Ashley, you have to replace the plants you inadvertently kill on a regular basis… she likes to say she loves them too much)

How to Apply

If you are interested in the role, please send your resume/CV through the Apply form with a couple of sentences about why you want the role and why you would be a good fit. We would like the role to begin in January 2022 and last for at least 4 months. We are flexible on the time commitment and dates that you work.
