About the Role – Climate Communications Coordinator 
CLASP is seeking an early-career communications professional who is ready to take their experience to the next level with our growing team. The Coordinator will support CLASP’s climate change mitigation portfolio, which focuses on data-driven, cost-effective interventions to mitigate the climate crisis and promote uptake of super-efficient technologies.

The communications team ensures that the role of super-efficient appliances in climate change mitigation efforts is well-promoted and shared. You will work closely with our program team to tell stories about the impacts of CLASP’s work and how investments in appliance efficiency benefit people and the planet. You will ensure that CLASP’s communication materials are clear, informative and impactful, and work with like-minded partners to promote energy efficiency as an effective and reliable way to limit climate-changing emissions. Your efforts will help keep CLASP’s communications team timely and on target, and you’ll have opportunities to grow your skills in writing, media engagement, business development and much more.

Your responsibilities will include 

  • Developing communications materials for news announcements, research reports and/or policy tools.
  • Designing and formatting reports, blog posts, and other publications following brand guidelines.
  • Writing and scheduling social media content for Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.
  • Contributing to upcoming communications campaigns (e.g. preparing partner toolkits; planning Twitter chats and/or webinars).
  • Developing and coordinating content for our bi-monthly newsletters; schedule newsletters and coordinate inputs.
  • Coordinating across teams to ensure consistent programmatic support on communications
  • Contributing to the development of new graphics and data visualization tools for use on social media and the website.
  • Supporting regular donor reporting and fundraising efforts, from helping program team members fine-tune narratives to researching new potential donors.
  • Managing critical program administrative tasks and day-to-day activities that ensure program impacts (e.g., develop and maintain contact databases, tracking online content engagement via Sprout Social and Google Analytics).
  • Researching innovative ways to communicate our initiatives through local/regional media outlets

What you’ll need:

  • 1-3 years of overall professional experience
  • Strong writer; must be able to write about complex and technical content without losing the big picture.
  • Proven ability to take tell stories in a variety of formats: web, print narratives and briefs, digital media, and social media
  • Good visual eye; must be able to reproduce CLASP brands across multi- media
  • Ability to handle multiple deadlines and complete assignments with minimal supervision in a fast-paced workplace.
  • Impeccable organization and attention to detail. You get satisfaction from producing polished work and managing smooth and orderly processes.

Compensation and Location
CLASP provides its employees with a competitive salary that is benchmarked annually with other non-profit organizations in the DC metropolitan area. Compensation for this role starts at $50k and can increase based on the candidate’s level of experience.

The Communications Coordinator will work in CLASP’s Washington office, and will work collaboratively with CLASP team members in Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia, conducting critical communications tasks and ensuring others on the communications team are set up to develop and execute objectives successfully. This will sometimes require working early mornings or late nights, to accommodate time differences.

The overall evaluation process will look to follow this anticipated timeline:
  • Early June: Selected candidates asked to complete short answer questions
  • Mid-June: Video interview with CLASP Staff
  • Mid-June: Finalist candidates will be asked to complete a timed trial assignment
  • Late June: Finalists will participate in a multi-team member group interview via video conference. (*due to COVID-19, we will be conducting all interviews via video for the near future)
