Full-Time Communications & Relationship Manager

Job Description

The Sustainability Office is seeking a full-time Communications and Relationship Manager to advance the story of our work. The position is ideal for someone who brings excellent writing, critical thought, problem-solving and the mechanics of fundraising and communications.

Duties include producing and writing communications content across multiple platforms, managing a team of student interns, occasionally acting as a spokesperson for the office, and coordinating fundraising efforts among public, private and individual donors.

The role requires the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines and contributors. Experience in the field of sustainability is preferred, though not required. The manager will work alongside a dynamic team of 11+ faculty/staff and 20+ students advocating for meaningful change across all areas of the University of Utah. The manager will report directly to the Deputy Chief Sustainability Officer and the Director of the Global Change & Sustainability Center, and will coordinate with sustainability professionals and other stakeholders across campus.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

1.Organize and plan sustainability communication strategies

2.Manage the flow of information to the public, promote positive public image and reputation of sustainability, and build strategic relationships with stakeholders

3.Promote and advertise sustainability programs, events, services, and expertise

4.Organize, oversee, and edit electronic, multimedia, and print content

5.Manage relationships, content, and promotions on social platforms

6.Help design, manage, and drive the implementation of a successful fundraising strategy to support sustainability development needs for the University of Utah

Position Description

Communication (70%)

Create, implement, and oversee communications programs that effectively describe and promote sustainability research, education, engagement, and campus progress at the University of Utah.

Communication Management

Organize and plan communication strategies:

•Lead the campus-wide quarterly sustainability communication forum;

•Coordinate and support sustainability communication efforts for the Sustainability Office/GCSCand with affiliated research units including the U Water Center, Center for Ecological Planning & Design, and Society, Water, & Climate Research Group.

Public Relations

Manage the flow of information to the public, promote positive public image and reputation of sustainability, and build strategic relationships with stakeholders:

•Seek internal and external earned media opportunities, coordinating with University Marketing and Communication;

•Ensure timely delivery of well-written press releases and media advisories;

•Act as the first point-of-contact for media seeking a sustainability story.

Marketing and Creative Direction

Promote and advertise programs, events, services, and expertise:

•Create and implement concepts for branding, advertising campaigns, and marketing messages;

•Create and edit specific communication pieces from theGCSCsuch as brochures, reports, once-a-semester newsletters;

•Support program managers in ensuring successful completion of marketing needs for their programs;

•Work with designer/design team to ensure timely delivery of all graphic content such as posters, reports, and postcards.

Content Management

Organize, oversee, and edit electronic, multimedia, and print content:

•Develop and implement style and communication guidelines;

•Manage a student team of content creators;

•Track and manage deadlines to ensuring timely delivery of content;

•Provide editing and final oversight on all materials from the Sustainability Office;

•Ensure timely maintenance of platforms including website, blog, newsletter, and others.

Social Media

Manage relationships, content, and promotions on social platforms:

•Manage social media intern(s);

•Provide editing and final oversight for all social media communication.

Advancement (30%)

Help shape, manage, and drive the implementation of a successful fundraising strategy to support sustainability development needs for the University of Utah.

Development Management

Facilitate, together with the chief sustainability officer, deputy director, and director ofGCSCthe creation and implementation of an annual development strategy.

Donor Database Management

Utilize Salesforce workflow management system to plan, implement, and evaluate specific fund development programs and campaigns:

•Ensure donations and relationship contacts are entered in Salesforce;

•Oversee reports and queries for relationship management, fundraising, and mailing lists;

•Prepare management reports, as needed and requested.
